No Moans About The Length Of The Queue?

Wed Aug 22, 2007 10:14 pm

Unusual.....it's now mid-August and the Q is only at circa 5000+!! Truly amazing when you think it's been up at 12-14000 in previous years at this time.

I'd just like to thank the hard working sceeners who must be working day & night to keep it down to that sort of level!

Well done!

Martin.

Hi all

Thanks for the comments.

Some screeners are working hard so thanks to them. Yes, some not so nice weather in the UK (surprise surprise). Also we are not seeing a lot of card dumping recently which is good. I think photographers are pre-screening their own stuff before uploading. The message is getting through.

It would be even better if the upload limit were something like 10 photos per week for each photographer, this is just an example.

Well, if they had just halted the uploads (save for priority shots) for a week or two like I propsed X number of months ago, we wouldn't even be in this position.  Wink

Thanks to all of the screeners for their hard work. My only concern, is this going to be a blip which gives everyone more uploads free in the queue so by 23/24 Aug there are 2000+ added back into the queue?

There are downsides to this though. Currently, there are 951 new photos added to the database in the last 24 hours. A lot of photos are getting lost in the "dump". Just a different perspective.

It means people take 130 shots on one day and upload them all in 3 or 4 goes.

We have indeed put a lot of effort in the past days and we deserve the praise Wink Seriously though, screening is fun when the queue is going down each time you open the screening page. Hopefully, and I say hopefully we can get it below 4000 in the next few days.

That's actually true. Then again, the 'special' pictures will always get their audience, as they quickly jump to the front page. But this will become less of a problem once the screening throughput is stable again.

I've simply just stopped uploading. Haven't had time to go out shooting lately and the stuff I was working on all got rejected. Sometimes having more slots is a curse, means more chances for things to get nicked!

Despite the Chihuahua nipping comments going around the screeners are doing a fantastic job on ploughing through the queue.

A big thanks to the screeners from me. I can't keep up with you at the moment. No sooner have I uploaded a shot, it's in the screening queue it seems! You do a fantastic job and the passion for aviation photography shows. This site would be nothing without you. I look after the flights section of a holiday website so I know how tough it can be.

Keep up the good work.

I have been away on holiday and the queue certainly looking a lot healthier than when I left (I am a great believer that a shorter queue is a good thing for the site). Also I note that daily uploads are relatively high, so I can only assume this is down to the sheer efforts of the screeners - well done to them.

Obviously these things go up and down, but it would be a real positive development to have the queue at no more than three days, or something like that. Receiving the feedback on your shots in that kind of time frame is so much better for all concerned than, say, 10 days.

Quoting TimdeGroot (Reply 19):
A little a.net history would tell you it was at 0 about 2 years ago

I well remember the day - just checked - December 21st, 2004, when I had a photo added within two minutes of uploading it. That day the queue was zero and apparently screeners were sitting there waiting for something to come in. If only......

Cheers.

Well, if they had just halted the uploads (save for priority shots) for a week or two like I propsed X number of months ago, we wouldn't even be in this position.

And then, after they would have started accepting uploads again, the photographers would have dumped all the backlog which they ordinarily would have uploaded during those two weeks, and the situation would have returned to the original. Even now, that as the screeners work quicker, more slots become available, you can see that the number of uploads increases.

The way the screeners are doing it now is the best way. Good job.

I've been a loyal contributor to this site for the past +7 years. I recently join the team and i'm really amazed with all the hard work and excellent organization behind the scenes they've been doing all this time!

I really respect all the team a lot, it's a very big team effort, but at the end, i think results speak for itself! I'll try to do my best (what's on my side) to keep this site running as it should and making it the best option for Aviation Photographers!

Thanks all for your kind words!
