CW Or CCW Or Level?

Thu Sep 06, 2007 1:55 am

Dear all,

I got this picture rejected for being unlevel, but I can't figure out which way to rotate. Maybe somebody can give me a pointer there?

Here's the pic:

Thanks in advance,

Sorry to repeat what's already been said, but it's definitely in need of some clockwise rotation.

You just have to look at that photo from a distance to see it.

Well IMHO, the screener who rejected this for level needs to get his/hers eyes checked.

I brought the image into Photoshop and placed guides on the verticals across the frame, EXCEPT the bloody lightpole that tapers on the left. Here's the results.

Leave it alone, it's great. Just appeal to Johan. Oh, and are we all being silly and arguing about what someone above has suggested is 1/2 of a degree? I thought nonsense like that had finally stopped.

IMHO

Quoting Clickhappy (Reply 5):
It needs CW rotation.

Then PLEASE do the rest of us a favour and explain what datum points you used to determine this. As you can see by my screen capture in the previous posting (which you can click to get fullsize) I have left the guide lines to show what I used to check for level.

It would be beneficial and educational to actually have someone show where these guidelines are not level. That's the problem we all face.

thanks

And it was correctly rejected.

Don't do it for me, because I can clearly see that the white tower is leaning to the left, and the "Takko" building is also clearly leaning to the left.

I used my eyes, Steve.

Isn't it funny you are the only one who disagrees.

Well, also me so i needed to ask ...

But anyway, thanks for your answers. If it needs some CW rotation then definitely less than 0.5 degrees, I expect about 0.05 to 0.1 degrees? I'll see what I can do.

Why ask for advice if you are not going to listen? It needs about 0.5CW or maybe even 0.6! Otherwise you are just going to get another rejection.

Andreas,

Verticals are great to level a shot, and most times the picture looks ok than. But sometimes you can't only trust those measured things. You more need to trust your eyes!
And it definately looks unlevel in your version, I have the feeling, the white tower in the background is the Leaning tower of Pisa  Wink

Photography is still a art (and yes, it also is on this site!  duck  ), and you need to trust your eyes on how the photo looks like, rather than on facts! (but I am also sure that if you measure your photo in a big version, you would also see that the verticals need about 0.5 degrees CW...)

Anyway have one thing in mind. the screeners probably do not know the airport, neither anything about the picture. They only see the final result. And that is what they have to judge. And they have no tool like PS to see some verticals or whatever. They can only trust their eyes. And this is good, as is said above the most important fact is that the photo needs to look good as no "normal" visitor of this site will ever check if the verticals are ok. He will look the picture and (hopefully) say: nice picture! Big grin

Cheers
Björn
