Hotels And Spotting

Fri Sep 14, 2007 10:52 am

hey all...what hotels around the US have the best views for possible spotting, or, what hotels are close by good spotting areas? Such as something near In and Out Burger in LA? My girlfriend and I are looking to get away just for a night and I'd like to spend a couple hours with my eyes in the sky.

Near SNA there is the Ayres Hotel. My family stayed there in 2003 (I think). There is a parking lot right outside one of the buildings that is great for watching planes. The SNA curfew ends at 7AM on weekdays I believe, so there will be a good amount of departures between 7-8AM.

The hotel is the two squares on the middle left of this image. There is also a rectangular building to the southeast of those that also belongs to the hotel. The parking lot I mentioned is the one where the L-shaped strip mall is.,0.008379&t=k&z=17&om=1

There are a bunch of hotels near MSP just south of the field in Bloomington MN. There is the Embassy Suites and there is i believe a fairfield inn as well both of these are about 1-2 mile final for rwy35. Also right across the street from them is the mall of America so you could do that as well. I have stayed in the fairfield 4th floor on the back and its some good views as the start of the ALS is about 400 feet north of the hotel

Looking on Google earth there are quite a few places around Atlanta

This one seems to be right under the flightpath for 9R.

How much does the other half like planes??

She's not a big of a fan as I am, but she's a fan none the less. She was a F/A for Trans States (regional that does United, US Air, and American Connection flying). So she likes being around planes. My favorite of hers is one day we were on taxi into the gate at ORD and she looks out the window and goes, "Is that a Pepsi 747?!?" (Korean Air) hahah. But she's be happy to tag along with me while I sit and stare at planes all day.

Make sure you use to get a room at LAX. I won a bid with $52 and I got the 2 1/2 star Courtyard by Marriott. Course they will tack on $17 for parking if you get a rental.

Just my 2 cents..
