My First Attempt At Putting A Photo On Here

Sun Oct 28, 2007 2:50 am

This is my first effort at putting a photo up on this site:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/b.../20071027_qf_vhogi_yssy_depart.jpg

What are the chances of it getting through? I've read a lot of messages on here, and tried to take note of the usual things.

Hey,

First, welcome to a.net! I'm afraid your picture has no chance in getting accepted. The sky is too grainy, the plane is very soft, and you should have cropped much tighter.

Regards,

That shocked me a little bit, but I sort of expected it.

How close should it be cropped then - a few pixels from the edge? Is it worth more editing on the original (I'm reasonably good with photoshop, but very new to the photography game)?

Looking at your suggestions, you are right, I removed it from the queue and added another one of the same plane:

I think this is a bit sharper, and it doesn't have any grain in the sky (that I can see).

A.net likes to have as little space around the aircraft as possible. Most of the time anyways. Have a look at latest additions, that will give you an idea about current standards.

Sorry. Sad

Please follow Ivan's advice. But I don't think cropping is your biggest problem; quality is.

I tried again on the weekend, and achieved much better results (to my eyes).

I'm more aware of the elements - and more aware of what to look for on the photos (grain, etc) when importing them. I'll try putting up another image and see how I go.  Smile

I'm also getting used to the Sigma 50-500mm lens and using without a monopod/tripod.
