Colin -

The first shot is blurry, look at the reg

The second shot suffers from a lot of heathaze.

The blur/extreme softness on the first shot looks really awkward!
Was there another turbine powered aircraft nearby, because it certainly looks very "concentrated", if you see what I mean?!

Second one, as stated by Clickhappy, suffers from a lot of heat-haze. The whole airframe suffers from the heat-waves.

Time to move on?! Naah.
New glasses maybe?  mischievous   Wink
In thrust I trust.

First one is a bit weird Colin... front-end is nice, but back-end (tail rotor) is really blurry. Not sure what has caused that. It's a shame as it's the kind of image I really enjoy seeing from you.

Please don't give up, I see no general trend for you to even consider that. You're a mainstay here, and long shall it remain that way.

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes it has been 3 years since the last time I visited the Optician. ($1000)

My moving on maybe is just a different spotting place or wait till winter again.

Another one of FRE ("FREddy the Frog) in queue on approach so that should be okay hopefully.

Now looking at HEN metadata and 18-200mm lens on 200mm focal length at f6.3, 1/200th sec so almost wide open and shallow depth of field may have blurred tail more? The other shot 170mm f8, 1/200th sec of HEN turned out better and I had moved further over to the right when I took it. Alas I put that on another site and won't duplicate it here.

Cheers,

18-200mm lens

Welcome to the world of the 18-200. How many 18-200 threads do we have in this forum? I can post shots just like this all day long. All of them taken with the 18-200.

Is it time for me to move on?

Absolutely... to a new lens.
Best advice: Sell it and pick up a used 80-200 f/2.8. I have seen them used here is Seattle for $700-$800. You can't beat the sharpness at all f stops. I ditched mine for $800 back in june. Only reason I got it was because it came with a D200.

Already have the 70-200mm f2.8 VR and should probable fit it to the camera more often! Interesting comments you make about the 18-200 and I am starting to think along the same lines.

And the one I thought was okay of FRE the Frog green ANZ special scheme has been rejected Contrast, Dark and Centred? What do you think?  banghead

checkmark  Yep Screeners pretty much nailed another one, yo. Too high in frame. Too much contrast which doesn't help out the dark either.

Hell yeah. If the sun is on the wrong side you just step over the tracks. You miss the shot you just drive further down and try again. You know exactly where the train is going to be. No switching runways!

What he means is the "BK117" on the tail. That part is very blurry. The rest of the shot is ok.

Look at the lines on the runway and the leading edge of the wings for the second. It does have an amount of heat haze there.

Nice shots though. Better luck next time.
