Sigma 135-400?

Sat Nov 10, 2007 2:51 am

Hi all. I was browsing B&H photo and came across this lens :

Obviously the price is attractive as an alternate to the Canon 100-400IS L, but I haven't really heard much about the Sigma. Would it be a viable alternative for someone who can't really afford L glass?

I don't own one, but a friend has one on a D2H for aviation and wildlife photography and he loves it.

I was also looking at this lense to replace my 75-300 Tamron. I've read 100's of reviews and all of them are positive with one downside -- the weight.

I heard the optical quality throughout the focal range is great for the price. I hope to own this lense by Christmas.

I am going to buy this lens in a few months, probably.

All the reviews I've read are positive, as stated above, but many complain about the weight and about lens creep.

For the price, though, you can't really beat it.
