Does This Stand A Chance?

Sun Nov 18, 2007 4:05 am

I usually try to avoid asking this kind of question and just find out for myself via uploading/screening...but, in case I might find some help improving this shot (if necessary) I'll ask anyway. So, especially for the screeners...does this stand a chance? Or should I stop wasting our time with these tricky shots from that particular airshow.  Wink

Wow, great shot!  Smile

Now, as far as screening goes, I think it stands a chance. The motive is different, and if you just had the F16 (is that what it is?) in the foreground, I'd almost guarantee it'd get it. You've got a bit of a problem with grain - in the sky and on the aircraft in the foreground.

Also, the photo looks better (I gave it an edit in Photoshop) with a bit more contrast, but it also darkens the aircraft in the foreground, which would probably result in a "dark" rejection.

I guess you'll just have to wait for a screener opinion here. Personally, I'd keep it in the Q.  Smile

Now Chad, I do believe you are what our British friends might call "takin' the piss"!!

And can't agree more with that!

And I'd keep it in the queue!

Cheers

Hello Ryan.

It certainly is a really good photo and I would be pleased to have taken it. I think A.net would be the worse for not considering such shots, and I am sure many screeners would agree.

But I have one question now.... if I were uploading it I would not be 100% sure what information to give. What is your subject here? In this kind of situation does the same rule apply with airliners - i.e. give the information for the aircraft nearest the camera?

Good luck with it.

I'm no screening expert, but I'd be proud to have taken that superb photo.  Smile

Thanks guys! I am still hoping for a word from a screener.   What worries me about this shot is that, as stated above, it does have some minor issues with grain. I had sent another shot from the same airshow to the queue that received similar reactions from everyone I showed it to. The problem was, it had a couple quality issues that just couldn't be overlooked in screening and the shot was rejected twice. I might still make another attempt with that one, we will see, but I have become somewhat of a pessimist. While I appreciate the nice comments from everyone so far, I fear the screeners might look at it with a different eye. I will leave it in the queue and hope for the best.

Yeah, I went with the foremost subject (the F/A-18) and used that information.

A lovely shot, but it may fall outside the narrow screening parameters of the site.

Leave it in the queue and see what happens.

Such is the never ending quandry of such a subjective opinion driven website I guess.
