Open Picture Screening To All Users

Tue Dec 04, 2007 4:27 am

Why doesn't A.net do it like Wikipedia?

There anyone can vote, with comments, on what should be a "featured picture":
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Featured_picture_candidates

I had my picture rejected the other day:

The other day?? That was over 2 years ago but I see your point.

I was going to dismiss this out of hand as unworkable, and it likely is but there is some merit in the concept.

Who would be eligible?
Members?
1st Class Members?
Contributing Photographers?

I think the idea neads a lot more thought before considering it for here.

Cheers
If your camera sends text messages, that could explain why your photos are rubbish!

Probably only members should be able to vote.

A small core group of editors could always override the decision in case someone tries to submit crappy photos by cheating (voting using fake accounts, etc), but that would not be economical given that member accounts are paid.

I'm sure many casual members on A.net who are not reviewers would be interested in participating in the review process. It could be a learning experience in photography for everyone.

ummm... I think it's called "Photographers' Choice". There is a link to it on the front page. You can vote for your favorite photo and leave a comment. WOW!

The current method isn't broke, why fix it?

This would be a disaster. Even now people complain about inconsistency in screening - imagine what it would be like if every member was involved ...

Brr...A.net using Wikipedia as a role model. Gives me the willies just thinking about it.
