OSH Photos: Worth Uploading?

Tue Dec 04, 2007 6:55 am

Hi all,

Here are some shots that I took this past year at AirVenture 2007 and have edited to the best of my ability. How do they look? Fit to upload yet?

Hey there.. quite a ways away from Airventure! haha

Let's see, the first shot I think is pretty much killed by the glare on the P-51 - I really hope you have another shot in the sequence because I really liked that heritage flight!

The second shot I believe is good to upload. - mayybe a little more contrast. I can't decide on that.

The third looks a little soft and a little dark. A kick of USM (around 200% at .2) and some brightness should do it.

Airventure was a heckuva show this year.. can't wait for '08!

I wish I had another that was as sharp as this...the other ones were either out of focus or had very slight motion blur (this was back when I was just getting used to my new SLR).

As far as the other two, how do these edits look?

Hi Ryan

My comments on your shots:
#1 is overexposed and grainy. The reflection on the P-51 kills the shot, but the whites on this aircraft are also quite blown out.
#2 is a tad oversharpened. The colours are very lively, but I think the problem might be in the contrast, as Mike said. The bright background doesn´t help, also. Second edit is pretty similar as the first one.
#3 is a bit blurry, rather than soft, and in your first edit you sharpened it a bit too much in order to compensate that. The second edit on this one is even more jagged.

Hope it helps. Good luck with them! Big grin

Thanks Lanas!

I've always wondered about sharpening, as I have an LCD and I have heard that jaggies may appear on my monitor even though the photo in question may not be oversharpened. It always helps to get a second opinion, in this case.

I guess I'll tone down the USM in the Grumman shot and upload that one. One of three isn't too bad considering my gear and experience.
