"You Did What!?!"

Fri Dec 21, 2007 9:38 am

Yeah, I'm still not dead, and this is my once or twice a year check-in...LOL.

Anyways, for those of you who know me, what I'm about to announce will knock you flat on the ground, so sit down - now.

I took possession of a DLSR yesterday. Supposed to be a Christmas gift, but I cheated and opened it early. Yep, that puts me on the naughty list...oh well!  devil

Pentax *IST DL. Not the latest or greatest, but it's a start. Has the 18-55 3.5-5.6 SMC-DA and I plan to get the 50-200 SMC-DA.

Anyone got any other lens recommendations that fit Pentax DSLRs?

I've been out of the photography loop, period, lately. The last 3-4 years have been real rough on a personal level and I haven't been able to afford film/processing for the most part. This'll get me back into it. Ugh, point and shoots...glad to be done with them!

Those of you I'd know, check in! Been awhile.

Pentax IST is a great camera (still can't fathom who allowed the name though!). Be prepared for some initial frustration..what you get out of the camera won't be encapsulated with the finishing that a P & S gives; they need a little more work.

Have fun, and merry xmas.

I'm certainly not new to SLRs. I shot with a Pentax ME Super MF Auto/manual body for years:

That's the SMC-M 80-200 4.5 on it.

I'm quite happy with this thing so far. I still can't believe I went digital, though

Here are some first shots:

I'm horribly out of practice...  Sad

I have the K10D

Get the FA50, its not for aviation photography (well not airborne anyway) but its probably the best $180 you'll ever spend. Awesome lens, tack sharp when you stop it down to F2.4-F2.8 and is a steal at its price. I also have the Tamron 70-300 which I would recommend over the DA50-200 for its extra reach and Macro function. It does have some CA problems, but I love it anyway. It's deff something to consider as it delivers amazing bang for the buck, it is only about $180-200 as well.

Cheers!

You cannot resist the power of the digital side of the force.  Wink

Welcome back, Cullen.

I have the K10D also and love it.

I had the *ist D and to my knowledge majority *ist digital range had exposure problems, so be careful of that. Mine was a nightmare.

Basically do you do more shots from a distance or close up? I have the Sigma 10-20mm which is great - don't know how I survived without it in the past. I have the 135-400 EX DC Sigma which is great too. I have other bits and pieces too, but these two get the most use. I highly recommend one or the other. If you have a bit of cash to spare, get both!
