Tanker Break Motive

Wed Jan 02, 2008 2:55 pm

Hi all and a happy new year to you.

I have not submitted any close cropped photos to the site, so I wonder if I could have some advice on this shot.

http://www.verslo.is/home/baldur/an/F-15C_83-0018_6096r_1024.jpg

It was taken as the F-15 was breaking off after tanking and he was pretty high under the rear fuselage. The tip of the left wing and stabilizer are missing in the original so I cropped it a bit closer.

All advice thankfully received.

I think the softness on the (in this shot) lower wing is going to cause more trouble (if any) than the motive.

You might get nicked for a border or something on the upper right corner (that speck of black).

IANAS (I am not a screener) so take my opinion for what it is worth.

It was f/5 according to the exif which means it might be out of the depth of field. If so that is probably why.

Very nice shot Baldur,
on my monitor the overall pic is a bit soft, I'd give an exra kick of USM.
Crop is fine to me...

Good luck !

I spotted out the black spot and gave it a small kick of USM.

Any better now?

Hi

How about this one. I have sometimes experienced that the server here does take a while to update from the cache, so a new name for the file might rectify that..

Thing I noticed with the second version is that you sharpened the sky as well, making the grain more prominent. Perhaps it is an idea to selectively sharpen the aircraft only?

Tight crop? Are you kidding ? Excellent!

BTW Is that some dirt I see to the left of the top sidewinder above the engine intake?

Agreed. The nose, upper wing leading edge and lower horizontal stab all have halos.

Beautiful shot otherwise!

I see it too. I also see another dust sopt in the photo. I would eliminate those before uploading.

I am just curious. Forgive me for my ignorance. Does it often happen that the top three photos of the last 24 hours are from the same photographer taken during the same mission?

This may seem like a plug for my photos, but please I do not need that and I just wonder how often this happens.

Best of all to you and thanks for the prescreening help with these.

Baldur -

Looks like you qualified here for top three photos of the last 24 hours -

It's not a dream - it's happening - not sure if it's ever happened anytime before for the same photographer with photos taken during the same mission - but I see it has happened with you...  bigthumbsup
