How Did This One Get Approved?

Thu Jan 03, 2008 2:00 am

Greetings, all...

Nothing against Joey Collura, as it is a nice sharp photo of an NW 747, but how did this photo get approved?
I'd say it needs a good cropping.... It's got a lot of foreground. It's got a lot of unrelated background.

Just curious....  Smile

It's very bad form to question an accepted photo here, but take a look at this thread - it should answer your question:

Let's talk about the real issue here. Someone needs to feed those Collura boy's ! The photo is not really sharp at all, but I can see why it was accepted, because these wide angle shots are the rave here, but seriously, someone buy these boy's some food  Wink

It got accepted very easily, the screeners liked it and clicked "Accept Photo." What's the problem?

Let's see your shots  Wink
It is a perfectly fine picture, and this is the proper way to link it...

You newer guys are going to have to learn real soon, that all these threads that you are making are not helping you. Bashing accepted photographs here in the forums is frowned upon. Not only is it about the photographs, but its bashing photographers as well. Saying "no offense to Mr. X" at the start counts for nothing.

Please refrain from this right now. It's really getting to me and a lot of the guys that have been here for some time.

Ditto that.

Didn't you watch Bambi as a child? "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

Seriously, you need to find another thing to occupy your time other than inappropriately criticizing others accepted work.

These types of shots seem to have been accepted for awhile here... I didn't really agree with them under the old rules, but now that more creative shots are being allowed in, I think they have their rightful place.

I agree 100%. If there accepted, there accepted. I hate to see all these "Why was this accepted?" or "How come this shot got approved?" threads.

Looks fine to me. Check out all the shots from KLAX near the In-and-out burger.

Whoa you gotta walk before you run dude, its your first day on the boards, wait a few days before you start calling peoples shots out.

Because you know the approach to 18R like the back of you hand right?

While I'll agree with you, half of my brother's weight comes from his hair, but by saying "boy's" I'm guessing you're talking to me as well? I'll have you know I can put my fair share of food away...i just never seem to gain any wait. lol

I believe it is not wise to throw stones when one is in a glass house. I know that I upload my share of good shots and "Blue sky on final to Logan" shots. But I will not call somebody out unless they ask to be critted. Or, well, that cow thing. That was pretty silly. But I see no point in dragging Joey's name through the mud with a thread like this.

That kind of motive has been acceptable for a while anyway, it is just difficult to pull off. It is also high quality in technical measures. I see nothing wrong with it.

Me neither but its got nothing to do with a person who's been here for 5 minutes, whether he thinks the shot is acceptable or not.

Yeah, thanks... Never held a camera in your hands but claim the photo of a respected long-time contributor to the website is a fake...

The photo is great and I'm very glad it has survived the screening-process.

There are plusses and minuses to allowing all registered photographers to use the photography forum.

Plus:
- It makes the screening job easier, as everyone can come here for photography/editing help. It'll benefit the quality of the uploads.

Minus:
- Loads of new people who have not been here very often of haven't been here before at all. Many of them very young/inexperienced, which might test the patience of 'established' photographers.
- Risk of getting threads here that have nothing to do with photography, but posted here anyway because it's the only forum available.

We'll just have to see how it goes, give it some time. The mods are keeping a close eye on the AV Photo forum now.

There's a thread by Ghostbase over in Site Related proposing that

why not have a small 'Photographer' text or symbol automatically added to a message header for contributing photographers when posting on these forums?

After all we have red Crew identification text as well as a special symbol for First Class members so why not recognise those posters who have achieved the high standard to get a photo accepted into the database and make this site what it is? It does not need to be anything grand but it could have a link to that poster's photos as well.

A great idea, especially for crap threads like the one we have here. Ghostbase's thread is at Forums - Contributing Photographer Symbol? (by Ghostbase Jan 2 2008 in Site Related)

Agreed. I think this shot is great. It's a different motive, it's creative, and it just looks amazing. It caught my eye the first time I saw it. I hate when people question an image. If you think this photo is fake, or looks bad, go out and take a shot you think should be on here. I guarantee you that you'll struggle mightily to do better than this shot.

Leave the shooting to the guys who've been here longest, and the screening to those who are hired for that reason. They all know what they're doing. And they do it very well.

Hi All

Many new members, great to see. I hope you will all post your questions here and make the screening process a better experience because of it.

However, as others have already said, this forum is not for critizing the work of others, which includes asking the question 'why was this accepted'. For such questions please turn to the screening team.

Cheers

You're all making a big issue outta all this. A new guy - probably young - starts a stupid thread (which by now he's probably regretting) and you all jump on the band-wagon. I'm sure he's learned his lesson. Good shot; not everyone's cuppa tea but good shot. It got accepted. Done. Finito.

I think this thread should be deleted, or if not no-one should give it any more time of day.
