Spotting Day-trip To LAX: What Airline, Gates, Etc

Wed Jan 30, 2008 6:29 am

Here's the deal: a friend and I are going from SFO to LAX for one day to take pictures at LAX.

Once we arrive at LAX, what are the main locations to go to inside the airport? How about outside the airport? Is it possible to reach these without a car? I do know I have to go to the In and Out Burger at LAX...

Imperial Hill! Never been there, but from all the LAX photos, it looks like a great spot, especially with the winter light. You can get many heavies taking off from the 25s. You would probably need a car to get there. Hoping on visiting LAX in March.

You can easily reach In-N-Out from the terminal, it's a 15 minute walk or so, just walk towards the Radisson and make a left on Sepulveda, it's a few hundred feet down the road from there.

This time of year In-N-Out is not that good due to the sun angle (depending on the type of shot you are looking for) summer is best for this location. The North side also has parking Lot "C" but a car is required as you will more than likely will be moved along by police if you do not. The easiest way is to rent a car in-order to get to the "Hill" and or the "Proud Bird" and lot "C" mentioned above.

Please contact me if you like via the photo link (Lufthansa 747) in Je89_w post from above and I can help abit further.

Cheers,

Michael

No, you can get to the hill by public transit, Beach Cities Bus # 109: http://www.redondo.org/depts/hbt/transit/109Schedule.pdf stops at the bottom of the hill (there used to be a #439 bus that stopped at the top but it doesn't run any more).

From the airport terminal it's probably easier to take the G shuttle to the Green Line rail station and catch the bus there rather than walk to the LAX bus station. However the bus station is cIoser to the In'n'Out if you want to do both spots.

Are you sure about that one? When I was there not even a year ago I didn´t have any problems and the people working at the parking lot were very friendly and helpful. Police didn´t show up either.

I guess taking a rental car might take you some time, expecting you´ll be arriving in the morming hours.
Nonetheless, have fun taking pictures at my favoutite airport!

Public transit is pretty fast and reliable within the airport area. Sometimes faster than by car.
Take the airport shuttle to the LAX transit hub and then take one of the many frequent express buses which will take you down to El Segundo LRT station and then take the number mentioned above to get to the Imperial hill spot. The bus stop is right across the street of the viewing park.

Cost: 75 cents one way, vs a few bucks on gas.
They run pretty frequent like every 20 minutes until sundown so there is lots of time to play around with. The express buses are every 15 minutes and same with airport shuttle.

Have fun there, I have a great time over there myself earlier this month, you can see the hollywood signs clearly (Amazing!) thru all that LA air during winter.

Speaking of KLAX and the proud bird restaurant. Does anyone knows if it is possible to make photos of traffic arriving on the two five, before they're open ? According to the restaurant website they open for lunch period at 1100AM.  Yeah sure
Thanks.

I have never known that parking lot to be shut, even when the restaurant is closed.

Very occasionally it has been used as an overflow for the B airport lot, at which time the attendant may try to make you leave. I wouldn't worry about it - it's very unlikely.
