Your Thoughts On Some Pics Please?

Sat Feb 23, 2008 8:25 pm

Hello !

I have taken the following pictures at Port Elizabeth (FAPE/PLZ) airport.

Could someone tell me which photos they think after editing might have a good chance of getting accepted onto the database and what part of the photo needs editing ?

1. Cessna jet parked on the grass in the General Aviation area at PLZ.

2. Cessna 152. The aircraft I did my first flying lesson in. I have now upgraded to the 172 as I can hardly fit in the 152 !

3. Kulula.com 737-400. Photo taken after flying in the jumpseat from Durban - Port Elizabeth .

4. Kulula.com 737-400. Photo taken after flying in the jumpseat from Durban - Port Elizabeth .

6. On final arriving from Durban. The King of Jordans A340-200 landed on this runway a few days ago.

7. View to the right of the jumpseat.

8. Kulula.com aircraft, I have flown on this a few times now, still awaiting new paint scheme.

9. Rare shot, as runway 17/35 isn't usually used by large aircraft as it is shorter than the main runway. My and my almost got blown away and I got alot of Aviation fuel fumes in my hair. (To dark thought?)

All comments greatly appreciated,

Again, I don't mean to sound rude, but maybe you should pick your favorite 5 (for example), spend some time editing them, and then ask here on the forum which might have a chance...

That's a lion, quite different.

I good way to start is to get the whole aircraft in the frame. Numbers 1 and 2 could be a lot better off if the whole airplane was in the frame. Also with the 737 shots on the ramp try and get shots before all the ground equipment is at the airplane.

Take a look around the DB and you will see plenty of examples of good motives and quality.

Yeah I kinda know that, just proving the point that not all my photos are bad quality !

I take MANY shots all around the aircrafts outside, It's just the quality wasn't efficient enough for me to bother uploading it as the photos are a bit grainy and to dark. It's usually the close ups that are a little better !

I have to disagree, the quality isn't your biggest problem here, it's the fact that the motive is off and you've cut off lost of the airplane. With a bit of photo shop your dark pics can be lightened up. As per your lion picture, you're using a 400D. There are hundreds if not thousands of pictures in the DB taken with a 400D.

For starters try shooting in good weather with the sun out and at your back. Shoot in Av mode at F8, ISO 100, with the highest image quality, and get the whole airplane in the frame and you'll have a darn good starting point.

As said your two Cessna pics would have a great chance if you would have got the whole airplane in the picture.

checkmark  Joey summed it up very nicely. A little more practice my friend...we were all once in your shoes  Smile

There are certain rules and regulations that determine the way and manner aviation related pics are shot, processed, uploaded and accepted on Anet. You have the equipment. Now you need to invest a little money on an editing software preferably Adobe Photoshop and time learning the art of producing an Anet class shot. Thierry Deutsch's guide to what is acceptable to Anet is a must read for a beginner. Check out the website below. It will help you avoid the shots (motives) that Mictheslik pointed out.
