Any Info On This Company? Photo Request

Sun Feb 24, 2008 8:14 pm

Hey Guys,

I just got the following email from a company and to be honest it sounds a little bit shady. Have any of you had dealings with them or know what the deal is?

Dear Matthew,

I have a considerable aviation archive, is it possible to put the picture from the Bell 222 Helicopter (OY-HIG) into my helicopter picture archive. You still have the copyrights, when we use it, mainly in the internet, we will mark it with the note: “archive Robert Kuehni”. This way it’s easier to protect your copyright, when we publish your picture in the net.
If we use your picture in a print magazine or in a book we will inform you in advance and we will reimburse you within the normal, common rates.

Thank you in advance.

With my best regards

I view this as being a bit of a scam. Person has a photo library that is used by web/print/media outlets. His archive library gets the credit when a photo is used. You get a small fee for effectively handing over all publishing rights to them to do with as they will.

If someone wants to use a photo like this, they should pay big bucks to buy the image rights from you to allow them use it in the way their email describes.

Quoting AA 777 (Thread starter):

Ha, that's funny. I got that same exact email even though I don't even have a picture of that of that chopper. That tells you a lot.

I'd ask why on earth he specifically wants this shot of OY-HIG in his archive.
I suspect he already has a good customer for it and wants to fob you off with a few pennies.
