for CDG and LBG you'll need a spotting license issued by the local police department. You have to send a scan of your ID card and a short explanation why you need the license to this email address:

xavier.huby( ät )seine-saint-denis.pref.gouv.fr

You'll get a written license by mail within 2-3 weeks (depending on how many requests they have).

For ORY there is no license needed.

Really? Since when is that? Sounds like a fair system.

I haven't been there in years but was a very frequent visitor in the 90's, never ever had any problems with the police in CDG.

On the contrary, i remember a very very hot and sunny day when the Egytian president was going to take off and the gendarmerie showed up everywhere along the airport side of the fence. The man who stood near us first asked a few questions, soon seemed interested in our hobby and we chatted a bit. He didn't know (and nor did we) what aircraft or person he was there to protect.

Those poor men were in full outfit with no shadow at all, they guy in front of us was sweating like he was in a Finnish sauna turned ridiculously high with someone constantly pouring water over the rocks. We offered him water but he couldn't accept, of course.

Then, after 30 minutes or so we saw the Egyptian government 707 coming our way and of course we knew that was the reason why the gendarmerie was there. So we told the poor guy that this was the plane he was waiting for, then we stepped on our ladders to make shots and luckily the man didn't complain about us doing that.

After the plane took off the guy didn't go away. We asked him why and he said his orders were to stay there untill - say - 3pm. He did accept our water from that point on, though
