Display Aircraft Serial #

Thu Jul 17, 2008 3:54 pm

I took a picture of a display US Air Force T-33 on the grounds of the St. Louis Transport Museum last week and I'm having a lot of difficulty with the serial number. The tail of the aircraft displays "29564", which I translate to a serial number of 52-9564. Based on Internet research I found that serial belongs to a T-33 on display at a museum in Montana, and a call to the museum confirmed that it has not been moved to St. Louis.

Digging deeper and using a combination of Joe Baugher's site and Scramble, I've been able to ascertain that the St. Louis aircraft's real serial number is 52-9446 and for some reason it's masquerading with a different serial. Scramble lists the plane with its real serial, with the notation "as 52-9564".

What do I list when I upload here? The real serial or the one painted on the airplane? Seems the real serial would be more useful.

Hi John,

According to our upload FAQ, you have to list the registration that is visible, irrespectively if it is a fake one or not, and you may include the real one on the remark field. In any case, if you have the cn, then you should of course use the correct one applying to that particular airframe.

Hope it helps  Smile .

Please do list the real serial in the remarks field. It helps a lot doing searches.
