3 Rejections That I Can't Understand

Mon Aug 11, 2008 7:36 pm

Hi All,

today I got three rejections that I don't understand:

1:

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...tions/big/20080811_D-AKNT_0405.jpg

2.

http://www.airliners.net/addphotos/r...tions/big/20080811_D-AKNF_0405.jpg

3:

I don't write the reason for the rejection. What do you think about these pictures? Are they really so bad that one has to reject them?

I'm very upset about some harsh screening decisions in the last days and I am thinking about stopping uploading photos to A-Net (as most of the people in Munich already did).

Thanks for your help and for your comments.

What were the rejection reasons? Am I right in saying they were rejected for "oversharpened?"

Hi Kris,

no, that was the rason for not writing the reasons.

1: soft, quality, level
2: soft, level
3: contrast, soft

What are you thinking about?

All are a little soft. A little off level and if I am not mistaken a little low in the frame. The capture seems fine just needs a little better edit. Not the end of the world.

Hi Klaus,

All your shots are dark and soft. Nothing that can not be fixed in processing. A quick play with one of your shots should show what you are aiming for. Of course it is always best to re-work your image right from the start.

Thats right, not the end of the world. But as you see. Kris thought that the pictures were oversharpened and you think they are too soft. Believe me, all pictures are level because I know the photopoint very good. The middle of all pictures is the window row so all pictures are centered. The effort to edit pictures for A-Net is too high for me now.

Hi Klaus,

I haven't seen your pics before, but let me please try to give you my impression:
- D-AKNT: Looks a bit soft to me, in particular tail and in the shadows below the wing. It also looks like it would benefit from some small CCW (verticals on the right side look a bit leaning). The engine cowling looks a bit oversharpened.
- D-AKNF: Here both extremes (tail and nose) are definitely soft, and there's an overall milky look to the picture, that is it needs a kick more contrast. Again, it would benefit from some small CCW (verticals on the right side look a bit leaning).
- G-EUPY: I see you have appealed this one, but here the contrast is very off, just have a look at the supposedly white upper surface, it's not really white. Overall the look is flat and dark, and if you have a look at the titles you may see also it needs an extra kick of sharpening.

Now, I hope you don't feel so upset any more, and maybe you can have a second more critical look at your pictures and try to see if what I am indicating looks the same to you (or not). Afterwards, you may choose to appeal, or alternatively improve the pictures and reupload.

Hope it helps, and please keep'em coming  Smile !
Just sit back, relax and have a glass of Merlot...enjoy your life!

Curse of the laptop monitor I guess. The writing and reg on the first shot looks like there's jaggies but as I just mentioned I am on the laptop. Sorry if I've confused you even more.

Cheers

I'm in the same position. Everything I upload is rejected. Here's the latest:

http://www.airliners.net/procphotos/...ilename=20080817_G7KES-B717MAD.jpg

They site several reasons, and after carefully looking at the picture again, none of them make sense.

They complain about the quality, but then put a limit of 1MB on the size - what do you expect? The photo was taken at 8MP, but of course then has to be sub-sampled to be accepted byAirliners.net. They say that I've used too much compression, but they want 1600 pixel wide images, in 1MB. How?

They complain about the colours - I can't see a problem with the colours.

And finally they say the image is "soft", which it doesn't seem to me. I'd be iinterested if people think I can use GIMP to modify this pic so that it might actually make it through the quality control procedure.

Best Regards,

Paul

On this one? I doubt it. All rejection reasons you mentioned apply, and then some...

Besides, nobody insists on 1600 pixels. If you took a few minutes to look at photos that are accepted (several hundred each day), you will see that the most common size is 1024 pixels wide.

Yes, horrid light and motive and size as well.

Unfortunatley not, the poor lighting and the fact the viewer is drawn to the person blocking the gear and bus kill it.

Very true. I can't even think of a situation in which I've been shooting of a photo I've taken yet that would even come close to being acceptable at 1600 pixels.

Thanks for that - I must have read the instructions incorrectly. I had a seperate reply on another thread (after I'd run the image through GIMP's sharpen) saying that the image sufferred because it was taken behind glass, so thats another lesson, I guess.

I should have come on the forums with my helicopter pictures (one taken from the deck of a ship) that weren't behind glass, and got some guidance for them. But it sounds like this one is definately not wanted.

Thanks!

Big version: Width: 1024 Height: 687 File size: 739kb

This is a very fast edit, it is a lot better. Just try to take the image with the sun shinning on the side you are and not through glass.

If I could have got ouside, I would have.

Apart from when I go gliding, this is about as close as I can get to aircraft. And I think that there are already enough photos of ASK-21's, Blanik L13's and Piper Cubs  Smile

But thanks for having a play. What were the stages you used to do that?
