Some Prestwick Questions

I will be in Glasgow on 1-3 September, and am considering a spotting trip to Prestwick. I would like to ask a few questions about the airport:

-I checked into bus prices, it costs 8 pounds to get there, horrible! Any cheaper connections?

-If I go there on the dates mentioned, what are my chances of seeing any vintage narrowbodies, 747 classics? What time of day is best?

-what is the best place to spot there?

-if you photograph, can you expect any trouble from security?

Air France used to send B747F there ... After their retirement last year, AF sends now B744F to Prestwick.

Train from Glasgow Central on a First Scotrail service to Glasgow Prestwick International Airport is £7.90 return.

The problem with prestwick is that it can be very quiet, however, the good thing about Prestwick is that anything can turn up, raning from a A32X on delivery to the US, to the B747Fs to the B747LCF to the AN124/225.

They do indeed (2 x weekly I believe).

Cargolux 747Fs are almost daily.

Unfortunately Polar/Atlas have stopped/are stopping their services through PIK.

MAC used to fly C141B's at least every other day from both KCHS and Norfolk Naval Base, VA to drop off a few pax and cargo, before continuing on to EGUN before it changed to the European Eagle channel flight. I'm not sure what's going on now or how AMC is running things, but you may see some C17's that took over after the 141 retired, maybe a C5 and some US Navy planes.

I do know at least two types you'll see are the J41 and J32's. Not quite as exciting as a AF 747F though.

Global Supply Systems operate three or four flights a week through PIK on the STN-FRA-PIK-ATL and STN-FRA-PIK-IAH services it operates on behalf of BA World Cargo:

One of the flights flies in at around 2000 hrs on a Wednesday and departs early on Thursday so might be in the time frame that you could be there. But by early September it will be getting pretty dark by the time it is scheduled to arrive.. I believe all the other GSS flights operate in and out of PIK over the weekend so are out of your time frame.

There are no equivalent flights now. There continue to be US military visitors such as C-130s on transit visits, but not in large numbers. You can review recent movements here http://www.egpk.co.uk/

As others have mentioned, not alot goes on but when something does happen it'll most likely be a good movement! (Other than FR)

When I went there a couple of weeks ago, there were 3 Gulfstream III's, 1 Gulfstream II, 1 Gulfstream V, 2 USAF C130J's, 1 USAF C130K (Which departed), 1 AF Cargo 744F, 1 C208, and 1 Cargolux 744F. All of which are pretty nice! This was however, on the day a golf tournament was taking place nearby.

The spot (At the mound) was also backlit up until 1030 if I remember correctly.
