A380 Spotting LHR This Saturday

Wed Aug 20, 2008 11:38 am

Hoping to surprise my dad to see the A380 for the 1st time this Saturday. Looks like winds are coming in from west.

If that is the case and if it departs on time, will it being taking off from 09R or 09L? Would Spout Lane be the best place to stand? Is parking easy?

If not and it takes off towards the east, is Myrtle Lane the best place to spot? Is parking easy?

Finally, can we go and it see at a terminal? If so, which terminal does it park at and are there any good viewing places?

Hi Tabatha,
If it's westely winds, then the runway used will be 27. The scheduled runway for departure is 27R Saturday mornng. If you don't want to take photos for the site, then I suggest you park up in the visitor's centre (poorly named) which is next to the Rennaissance Hotel, outside the Heathrow academy. You will get a good view of the departing aircraft starting their take off roll.
If it's easterly winds, then I suggest you park in Hatton Cross car park, from where the departures will pass over your head.
As for the terminals, I'm afraid that's a no-no as there are only views from airside within T3
