Your Favorite Location To Photograph At?

Mon Sep 08, 2008 9:52 pm

I'm new at this whole deal of photography.

I just want to get an idea of what the A.net community thinks and what locations (world-wide) give you the best results??? Results i mean aviation pic's.

Much Appreciated guys and gals-

To me, there's no contest.

By far, St. Maartin beats out all the competition.

For me it's Atlanta because it's close to Nashville (my home) and it has some interesting visitors from time to time. Not to mention it is quite busy down there.

The hills of runway 24 at BDL. Shame that I get chased away most of the time.  frown  Long live the dash and grab!

I'll have to say LAX. The weather is almost always perfect and the action is always constant, both in frequency and variety.

ATL can be nice if you know the right people who can get you the right access.

SXM is good but won't be the same now the SSBB has closed. For me the best place has to be SBH

The best spot I've encountered is probably the terrace of the Hotel Royal in CFU, Greece, where the shooting is great in the morning (even while having breakfast).

At my local airport, AMS, my favourite spot is the threshold of landing Rwy 18R in the late afternoon/evening. I love the slightly elevated position, the backdrop of the little village, and the piano keys lighting up the bellies. Somehow few people seem to like this spot, perhaps because it involves some walking (or cycling). Some people will even drive from Germany, then stay at the parking lot closer to the 36L end where you'll see little action. Boggles me.

SXM is great for obvious reasons, but I must give the nod to LAX. The sheer volume of traffic, especially international heavies, and reliable weather make for a great spotting experience. Bring memory.

LAX is awsome and has plenty of options and angles to make photography, but SXM is almost like a never ending beach party.

Hi there,

the spot I enjoyed the most so far was the one and only In-N-Out at LAX. Theres simply nothing that beats eating the great burger and photographing planes at the same time. Also the traffic is brilliant. Unfortunately has been there only once, but hopefully I'll visit it again sometimes soon.

I also love other LAX spots, such as the Flight Path Museum.

From the airports I get to visit more often, it has to be either Narita thanks to its excellent obs. decks and also spots outside airport or in Europe Vienna.

I say my favorite spot is Tokyo- Narita and Tokyo-Haneda, which provides some awesome spots and angles and a magnificant observation deck.

As for the United States, I like BWI. As what Mr. Collura said:

For me TLS is a very good place, isn't the Caribean, has not the traffic of London, Paris, Madrid, Frankfurt... but :

1. Very good spotting sites : touchdowns, approach, taxiing..
2. You have ALL airlines in the world
3. Big aircrafts & new aircrafts

WOW....fantastic shots dude.

---

For me, at my homefield of OKC, at the Post Office. It makes you learn how to shoot every plane that passes by with the best you have. Little traffic makes you want to get it right in camera not just snap away and hope for the best.

If I got to visit it more, it would be In & Out at LAX, great WX and great traffic.

Wish I had some better lenses though...
