St Elmo's Fire Us..

Thu Sep 11, 2008 2:20 am

G'day Guys
Well first time i have posted or uploaded in a while but thought this was worthy and looking for some similar shots from people to show off.
Took this a few weeks back en route from Singapore to Darwin.

I have been trying to get a shot like this since i started at Qantaslink in 2000. So it has not been through lack of trying!!
Knowing how hard it is to get this shot if any of the guys who sit on the flightdeck have something similar with some nice St Elmo's fire show them off. To sit there and watch this unfold is pretty special.
Little info on the shot it was taken with a 1Dmk3 ISO 1200 a 14/2.8L II and mounted to the jumpseat on a Manfrotto magic arm.
One of 120 that was usable the rest hammered by the turbulence we where flying through.
SO if you have managed to capture this special light show post them here for all of us to see.

I browsed the db for this type of photo some time ago and didn't find many.
St. Elmos fire is extremely hard to catch. Must admit your photo is top notch.
This is my humble contribution:

As you mention, lots of turbulence associated to these effects.

Hey Ander
Cool shot..
Guess i was pretty lucky with this one as itwasnt as bumpy as i have seen it in other situations.
This area was like a band of high cloud with a little bit of rain and just light continuous bumps as we skirted around the edges of the storms.
The tropics is amazing for this stuff....
