Double Rejection?

Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:51 am

I was wondering if one of the Photo Screeners or anyone with accurate knowledge could let me know if something has changed regarding a photo being rejected because it is considered a double???

I have just had a photo rejected and the message was "Reject reason: motiv double", I'm wondering if the rules have changed recently. I am not complaining about my pic being rejected, that's just the way it goes.

It clearly states here that "I" cannot upload a similar photo that "I" have taken on the same day of the same aircraft. In this case, "I" have NOT uploaded the same aircraft, this is the first time I have uploaded this aircraft. Both my husband and myself are members of a.net.

The photo I have had rejected was taken by me and "I" do not have another photo already in the data base of the same aircraft. There is indeed another photo of this aircraft in the data base that was taken by my husband. We both take pictures of aircraft and travel together thus we do take pictures of the same airplanes. The shot that I submitted is a different angle and the cropping and editing is totally different.

DOUBLE
You already have photos of this aircraft in the Airliners.net database that are the same as, or very similar to these photo(s).

In order to receive this rejection, the other (similar) photos in the database must also have been taken by you, at the same day and at the same airport. Please do not upload multiple sequential shots of an aircraft during landing, taxiing or take-off, taken only a few seconds apart. Even though these photos may appear to be from different angles, we consider them similar. Please select the best shot from the sequence and upload only that one. One shot taken during landing, and another during take-off will generally NOT be considered a DOUBLE error.

In certain cases you can also get this rejection if there are photos in the database that are nearly identical to the one(s) rejected here, but taken on another date by you. Examples of this are photos of stored or preserved aircraft that have not moved since you took the other photos.

************************************************************************************************

Just wondering if someone could let me know why "Double" rejection applies to my photo?

This is my husbands photo.

Hi Phyllis.

Something odd seems to be going on here. As far as I am concerned there are (and always have been) two key ways in which you can get a double rejection - when you upload a second photo of the same aircraft on the same day as one that already has been accepted, that is not sufficiently different (different side, completely different motive etc). Also the double can apply if it is the same aircraft on another day, but it looks too much like a previous shot in your portfolio.

If you don't have another example of a particular airframe yourself then it cannot be possible to get a double rejection, as the key element of the double is, as you say, 'you' and the similar view. There are plenty of examples in the database of two (or more) contributors uploading exactly the same image of a plane but because they are taken by different people they get in, irrespective of the fact they may be indistinguishable.

Do you also upload with the name 'Coates' - that might explain a simple error. I am interested to see Chris got his shot in with the wheels blocked as they are. Hopefully you will get some more information from the inside on this one.

All the best.

Paul, I would think it's because the snow is a medium in which the plane resides, rather than simply an object between the plane and the camera. In this case, I don't see the snow as any different than mud or water.

Paul, I don't upload under the name "Coates". Chris Coates is my husband and he uploads under his own name. I upload under my maiden name Phyllis Purich - there are numerous a.net members who have met both of us at YYZ meets. Also, no one is supposed to have duplicate memberships here at a.net. My husband has been a member of a.net longer than I have and we have actually met a couple of a.net staff members at YYZ meets, so if there is any doubt that we are 2 different people I'm sure they can confirm the above facts.

Mick, thanks for the feedback - as far as the reject of the pic that was not the issue, that's just the way it goes. My concern is that I do not have this pic already in the data base and I found it very strange that a screener would reject my photo because of "Double". As mentioned above both my husband and I are a.net members and of course we shoot our own pics at the same airports.

Thanks

Well, I am at a loss as to what action to take next.

I was going to appeal the rejection of this photo because the screener who rejected it is wrong - this is definately not a "double" however, when I go to do the appeal the photo does not come up - I guess they have done this so I can't appeal it?

Can one of the screeners let me know what my next step should be?

Thanks

Everythings if fine and I have appealed my photo because it is not a double....I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens now.

Phyllis it could get rejected for badsnow! Jeez that makes me cringe, makes me want to load my car now and hit Clark county instead of waiting 2 months.

BTW the pic you posted is 800 by 600. I believe minimum is 1000. Your shot would look much better at 1024 by 683. If it's not the same forgive me.
Hey that guy with the private jet can bail us out! Why? HE CAN AFFORD IT!

Phyllis,

your photo is now in the database. Good to see a wrong being righted.

McG1967, yes, the error was corrected and it is now in the data base.

The screeners work very hard as do all the staff at a.net and I thank them very much for the great work that they do!

Thank you for taking care of this so quickly.
