What Are The Circles In This Photo?

Fri Oct 17, 2008 5:17 pm

Hi everyone. I came across this beautiful photo and was wondering; what are the circles on the ground below? Credits to the photographer btw.

Crop fields with irrigation machines that pivot on a central axis. These are quite a common sight over the midwestern U.S.

Yes, they're full 360 and 180 degree irrigation pivots used to water crops. They are especially common in dry areas, obviously.

In Canterbury New Zealand a lot of farms use these or they sometimes use long line irrigators.
