Spotting @ LAX, Oct 20; A380 Arrival

Sun Oct 19, 2008 1:01 pm

Another thread is reporting that the Qantas A380 will be at LAX on Monday Oct 20.

Given that it is scheduled to use 25L, would you recommend Proud Bird or Imperial Hill for photography? I only have a 200mm lens, which might be a factor.

Proud Bird. 25L arrivals can be tricky from Imperial Hill because of all the airport buildings on Imperial Highway.

Showed up this morning at the Proud Bird but it was quite foggy/overcast. I had to boost ISO to 800 just to get a high enough shutter speed so that it wouldn't blur so much. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get any good pics this morning. Did anyone have better luck?

Nice to see the big bird, though.

Was a great day, unfortunately as you guys said, the landing had nothing but overcast sky, and the take off was too much heat haze to be good.

Had a few nice encounters with JT though, glad he found time for a photo or two, he was quite relaxed despite everybody going for him hehe. Seems like a nice person.

Briefly talked to his 707 crew too, now that's a job you'd have to have. All nice guys.
Could have asked him for a job on the 707, but then again not sure how impressed he would be with my Cessna 150 endorsement  Wink
Some photos if you care.
