This one is of my mate Andrew Bourne. He has one shot in the DB (yes only one but we all had only one at one point).

So how many more are there?

To tell you the truth, I actually didn't know that. My bad.  Embarrassment

Anyway, that's pretty cool. Resembles the expression, "There's a pill for everything" - "There's a photography lens for every kind of shot you want."  blush

As others have noted, it's a Nikon 16mm Fisheye Lens on a Full Frame film body.

Actual altitude was 8,000' release height (AGL) so this was likely around 7,000~7,500 AGL.

After learning what a fish eye lens is, a release height of 8000' AGL makes sense.
A far cry from my release altitudes; usually around 3000' AGL  cool

Argh I so envy your knees! When I fly a K21 I can only use about 1/4 rudder deflection as my legs are too long and hit the instrument panel.

Why on earth do you get an 8000 launch? Any chance you could flash me a picture of your camera boom rig?

Why an 8000 foot launch? Well I wanted to get above the convective layer and above the tops of the Cu's so I had clear air for the photography. As you know, except for limited circumstances (Thermal or Mountain Wave) you're not able to climb higher than the convective layer. So a high tow was the answer.

Here's a couple of frames taken by others at my club of me flying with the boom attached.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Do Not Try This unless you really know what you are doing. It took several months to design and construct the boom because it must mount on the fiberglass wing and NOT leave any holes or marks. Also, it MUST be aerodynamic and airworthy. Safety comes FIRST and ALWAYS!!!

Thanks for the info, I'm not planning on doing anything similar for a good while myself, as I do not own my own glider yet so always use club aircraft, but I have been getting interested in those little cameras you tape on....

I guess I'm used to a hill flying site where 10K+ climbs are common so the idea of a tow to 8000 seemed very useless to me :P.
