Full Frame / Non Full Frame

Mon Oct 27, 2008 3:03 am

Hi All,

Quick question:
Lets say I put on a lens designed for a full frame camera onto one that has the 1.6 crop.
I absolutely wouldn't see why, but could that cause some problems?

FYI: Canon 70-200mm F4 IS on 20D, 40D.

Just making sure.

Thanks, -D-

The 20D and 40D are both 1.6 crop factor.

It would just narrow the FOV anyways.

No! Why would it be a problem? No matter what the sensor size is a 70-200 is still a 70-200. What you get is 'field of view crop factor' which some photographers believe that makes the lens a 112-320 lens based on a 1.6 crop.

There shouldn't be any problems.

Just get the lens and have some fun. Big grin

Canon lenses are fully interchangeable unless they are EF-S. These are made specifically for cameras with APS-C sensors (1.6 FOV crop) and do not fit on full frame cameras.

From what I've read on the new Nikons if you use DX lenses on an FX sensor it automatically drops it down to 5 Megapixels.
