Still "single"? - Looking For Number 2!

Thu Feb 19, 2009 11:13 pm

Hi all,

I have been scanning some (old) slides this winter period, and although it takes up a lot of time (searching for the correct data), I found this a lot of fun. Then, at the time of uploading, checking in the database whether the aircraft is already in the database (different dates, different locations, different c/s, etc...) or not, is also interesting. During the time of reviewing my collection of slides, I have found some shots that were not yet on the database. So, sometimes an uploaded shot remains "single" in the database, or, when somebody else uploads an identical registration, it gets "company".

An example here:

my uploaded shot (march 2007):

stayed "single" until Gary uploaded his shot (april 2008):

To me, this is really interesting (seeing the same aircraft, but in a different setting) and I wonder if others like it too. Therefor my question: Post here your shot (of which only you have a copy in the database), then it is up to the other uploaders to find/upload number 2.

PS: I am sure there are a lot of photographers here with unique shots, show them!

Have fun,

Walter

I know that this is the only shot of this airplane. And the sad part is: this will always be single

Hi all,

I forgot to say that we should limit the posted shots to 1 or 2, in order to keep it under control (as suggested by TransIsland).

Best regards,

Walter

I love to go off the beaten track, and I'm also not above shooting Cessnas, so I've a lot of 'singles'.

This Vampire is technically a 'single', but the same aircraft does appear in Steve's photo on the right, taken over 30 years earlier! I thought that was interesting.

That was in fact what I was looking for! Indeed interesting! It's fun to see how things change in 30 years...

Yup  Smile

Just had a shot accepted today that joined a "single" already in the database. It's crazy how different the settings are between the two!

As for "singles" of my own, here's one from Oshkosh. Maybe one of the other Airventure spotters happened to get it too.

I have a couple of GA's but don't really care if they are single or not, but I do have an airport that is single at the moment. I would love to see more images from the time when it was in use, and even though it was top secret someone ought to have some images in their drawers in Tartu, Estonia or Russia.

I find it a little odd that there's only a single shot so far of one of the most visually striking aircraft in one of the largest aviation museums in the world. Who could resist taking pictures of an SR-71?

Since my post pointing out the futility of this exercise due to the volume it might potentially generate was considered "low quality," I shall demonstrate my point by posting my "singles."

BTW, I also have an album where I take a shot of every non-single bird of mine and put it next to my favourite a.net pic of the same bird by a different photographer. Doing this, I found some new matches. So I guess it was a useful exercise after all.  Smile

I was posted at CFB Borden for over a year and only seen this bird once outside the museum. Couldn't tell you if it's still there or not, or even if it's still painted in this scheme. Anyway here is CT-114 153

Thanks. That's why I initially expressed doubts as to whether this was a smart thread to start. That post, apparently in violation of rule 1e (gee, people get worked up about harmless posts these days), was deleted, which made me think that this would be another way to demonstrate my concerns.

How about if we take this one step further and look for "singles" of not just one aircraft registration, but one aircraft type? This list includes a Boeing, a Dassault, a De Havilland, three Hillers, two Lockheeds, a Piper and three Rutans:

I'll spare you the rest and another big plug, this is just from 2 pages out of 21 in total. Most of my Groningen shots are singles, especially the GA planes.

Quoting Dlednicer (Reply 20):
How about if we take this one step further and look for "singles" of not just one aircraft registration, but one aircraft type?

David, I have one that will fit your idea (the only one I'm currently aware of anyways..)

Still single and thankfully the owner came and retrieved this aircraft not long after this photo was shot:

Very likely that this one will remain single, unless some other airline picks up this Airbus:

Its registration is E31, next to its civilian-type registration "F-TERK",
