Airport Tours In Florida

Tue Feb 24, 2009 8:28 pm

Hello, I was just wondering if any airports have tours. I heard that Tampa International does some. Are there any important things I need to do for a tour? I was asking so I can get a few photos and get them on here.
Thank You.

Do not even think about McCoy it is lucky if you get next to perimeter fence to take pictures there.

About a year ago, I read in some "visit FLORIDA" brochure, that 5 commercial airports have tours, but darn if I can remember which ones.

But yes TPA does have one. Took it about 5 years ago. We went out to the old fire station on the east side. Actually, I think TPA has 3 seperate ones. They IIRC require at least 5 people. For all Florida airports, check their websites or call public relations offices.

Sydney has one that I went on a couple of weeks ago

http://www.airsidetarmactours.com/

It's pretty good, and the day that I went there were A380s in from QF, SQ and EK in, but not together

Unfortunately cameras are not allowed

Zurich has one too, I think

It's not that bad. All you gotta have is a permit and you are fine to shoot from the parking garages.

Which are miles away from the action.
I would love to fly a cargo plane full of rubber dog shit out of Hong Kong!

Not unless you have a 200mm lens. 400mm is plenty for what you would need. You can't have it both ways in the case of MCO. Either you shoot from the garage and other "places" that are available or you don't shoot at all. It's amazing what a little phone call and question will get a person nowadays. Alot of places that you can shoot from just require one to ask first, not just pull up and start going at it.  Wink

True, but heat haze would probably ruin your shots.

Absolutely in some cases. The closing of the Red Lot was a real blow there to photogs and it's hard to find a good spot to shoot from. There are some reasonably good places but caution should be execised.

When I spoke with the folks at GOAA, they were fairly bold with acknowledging the Red Lot closing. They were fairly quick to assure that it's re-opening is unlikely too.
