For those of you who upload to Myaviation.net, I've got some unfortunate news. The latest batch of approximately 5000 photos was lost due to a network storage problem.
If you uploaded a photo and checked both the Airliners.net and Myaviation.net boxes, AND the photo was accepted into Airliners.net, you're fine. We managed to save the shots that were also accepted into Airliners.net.
This photos uploaded solely to Myaviation.net, however, were lost.
What do photographers need to do?
Check your Myaviation photos. If any are missing, they will have to be re-uploaded.
What has been done to solve the problem and prevent future losses?
The network storage has been restored, and screening procedures have been altered. The screening process is now slower, but will allow this kind of glitch to be immediately identified before it becomes such a large problem.
Will this ever happen again?
It might, but this kind of glitch has been an extremely rare occurrence. Myaviation presently has no developers on staff to improve the framework of the site. Any development support is done on an emergency basis, and is borrowed from the Airliners.net developers who already have their hands full. But in the event that this glitch reoccurs, the new screening process will limit losses in a similar situation to around 100 photos.
Apologies for the inconvenience, and many thanks for your patience.
