Beijing Spotting Made Difficult

Tue May 26, 2009 5:33 am

Just want to inform you spotters out there that the airport authorities at PEK has done their best to destroy the photo sites around the airport. 7 meter bamboo poles with nets between them has been put up along the perimeters of the airport making it very hard to get a clear photo without net in the image. Also a big stretch of the dirt bank that runs alongside RWY 18R/36L has been dug out. Sad, as this was a great place to spot...

The bird nets have been there for years. Nothing is really newly introduced.

Bird net? I doubt it as they only run along the popular walkways, the more inaccessible part towards 36L does not have them, and my guess is that there ought to be birds there as well.
Besides it makes no sense to put up nets for that cause as they can fly both under and over it, and also birds are all over the field, not only along the airport perimeters. Center runway has no nets...
