Show Us Your Best Photoshop Image

Sat Jun 27, 2009 11:16 pm

Well, since this forum has become more or less a pre after before screening platform I figured I try to at least bring back some fun:

Show us the best "photoshoped" image you have in the database........!!!! (just kidding)

Seriously, the ones who are playing around with PS....show us your images. Something out of the ordinary! it can be aviation related, but other stuff is welcome too......!

VG.

The uploading function seems to be broken right now =/ but I had to do some paid shoots a few months ago and one of the biggies was NO BUILDINGS. However, there was really nowhere to park the plane to exclude buildings in the photos.

So what I did was I used some backgrounds that had no buildings from other shots/angles in the same day and composited together a background for the day/night shots. A huge, huge no-no on this site but it scored me a huge paycheck. In most cases you can do this stuff without anyone noticing with very careful masking. Sloppy masking will destroy you every time. In any case, most people I've shown them to (who are very experienced photographers) can't pick out the fakes unless I show them before and after shots... but this is a skill that comes from years of doing retouch work for prepress, and this sort of thing is done all the time there.

Normally I am like most people here and prefer no photoshoppery but in some cases push comes to shove. This was nothing new anyway, people have been compositing in skies in darkrooms for decades. It just takes us less time to do it now, and much less of a penalty if we make a mistake in the process...

Well, I'm not too good and photoshopping airplane pictures, so I'd rather go for the other stuff:

I know it's not quite yet perfect but I'm getting better at it every day. Big grin

This is my only real "aviation" Photoshop job... I was bored while waiting for the flight to arrive and took a grid of shots to photomerge later, and then thought "Hey, what if I add the photos from the approach too?"  Smile

Most of those are from aviation-design.net. Possibly borrowed without permission? If you want to see more great ones, see the link below. Then click on the Most Popular-Of all time link on the left side. Some are very realistic!

Made this one up after NAS JAX 2008.

I also starting making these in order to use some of the maneuver shots that wouldn't make it on their own due to distance.

Done up as an April Fools joke on what Havana's Plaza de la Cathedral would look like after the US embargo is dropped and American businesses swamp Cuba.

This livery would look real good on the A380 though.  Smile

A fun thread for sure. Good to see what others can do and enjoy doing at times.

This first photo I did for fun. It was just after Thai started non-stop service from BKK and we had a slide show at my house (a bunch of us NY area aviation photogs get together and show some of our latest pics). I knew everyone would show a shot of the Thai A345 departing JFK off of 31L and they would all be the same. I wanted mine to be a little different ...

http://www.photovation.net/Uploads/ThaiA345.jpg

When Glenn Stewart came to visit I sent him home with evidence that the NYPD were friendly and supported our photography at local airports ...

I took some shots for Allen Smith who flies an L39 on the airshow circuit and decided to slip this one in to see if he noticed ...

Definitely fun to play around and not be so serious all the time. Enjoy  Smile
