Plane Spotting Omaha And Kansas City Question

Sat Jul 04, 2009 6:51 pm

I'm also looking for info on spotting at Kansas City and Omaha. Des Moines just dosen't have the big planes other than UPS and FedEx.

Well, with all due respect, you're not going to get much bigger in OMA or MCI. What exactly are you expecting out of these cities? LOL!! Seriously though, take a trip down to Wichita and watch the USAF fly in some of their heavies! That is if heavies are what you are looking for of course.

BTW, what drums do you play??

I'm looking for 737's or bigger. Most of the flights in DSM use regional jets. Only Allegiant and a couple United flights use anything bigger. I play Ludwig drums when I play gigs, but have a Pearl Sessions for practice.

Oh! Well if 737's are what you are wanting, then both airports should give you plenty! Especially MCI with WN's larger operation there. BTW, thanks for playing Pearl. I work at their North American HQ here in BNA and I too, obviously, play them!

If you want to see some 737's and your in the BNA area, drop me a message sometime!

I spent a couple of hours on the OMA terminal car park (1 floor down from the top) with no problem. I was discrete (I think), but there's no guarantee some cop or security drone won't see you and go apesh*t. Two hours of boredom was about all I could take anyway.

At MCI the road to the hotels (Hilton/Marriott) runs parallel to one of the runways but, as always, it's the one used least often. Nobody seemed to mind. Didn't find any other good spots although there are some views from outside either end of the terminal.

Frankly, I wouldn't make a special trip to either place but I guess you don't have many other options from DSM.
