Geneva Observation Deck

Mon Aug 24, 2009 12:24 pm

Hi!

I'll be at Geneva Airport for the first time coming Sunday, 30.Aug 09. Some photos I found online state that there's an observation deck at GVA, however the airport's website doesn't say anything about it (or at least I didn't find it...). So now my question is whether there is an observation deck at GVA, whether it is open right now and whether it is any good for photography? Are there any other good photospots which are within say a 20-minute-walk from the Terminal?

Any hints are highly appreciated! Thank you very much and best regards,
Mike

Hi Mfz,

There indeed used to be an observation deck in GVA. More than 10-15 years ago, it used to be a long deck where one could go to the long haul intercontinental terminal. Once the terminal was renewed, there was only a small part left, which we called the Aquarieum, as it was small and had a big glass wall which during rainy days would be full of vapour and water making the visibility of the aircraft very limited.

GVA is going major transformations and the deck has now been closed. Not sure if anydeck will be opened, thing that many of us here in GVA largely regret,

However ,if you go to htt://www.dpts.org, you can see there are many great spotting areas around GVA. Hope this helps ,

Last time I was at GVA, in May 2009, the observation deck was closed and a renewed overpriced restaurant took position. The restaurant offers great views though...

Hello guys!

Thanks a lot for your information - now I have an idea what to expect! Hopefully I'll get some nice photos at GVA...

Thanks again and best regards from Munich,
Mike
