Skipping "Delta" Planes?

Wed Aug 26, 2009 7:43 pm

The recent takeover/merge of NWA by Delta Airlines has left me cringing whenever I see a DC-9, A330, or 747 in Delta colors. Personally, it makes it look rather plain and simple. Do any of you skip over these "Delta" planes when you are spotting in MSP (for example)?
Or do you skip over the NWA colors? Recently, I have noticed more DL colored planes in the photo archives here, especially DC-9s. (which I love everything about them, I wouldn't mind having one in my backyard...or an Aeroflot A333.....)

Just give me a Boeing 777-2Z9, and I'll be happy :)

I personally skip over the Delta a/c and click away at the NWA ones figuring " They'll (delta) be still around a few years from now".

At JFK, it's been a treat to see DL colors on all the "new" metal - A330s, DC-9s, keep them coming! Of course, I'm still shooting whatever is left in NW colors as well.

I personally like the DL livery a lot. I do also like the NW livery and it's a shame to see i go but I don't see what's so horrible about the DL livery, it looks very clean and professional to me. A lot like BA AF and LH have looked for a long time. DL is a major world airline player now and they needed a livery that looked the part (mostly something about delta on the tail).

I'll be in MSP this Fri-Sun and plan on taking video and pictures of NWA and Delta painted aircraft.

Quoting DL767captain (Reply 3):

The DL livery is nice compared to some colors, but because BA, AF, LH and many others have done the same basic thing, it looks a little basic. White fuselage, with decal near front, and the company logo on the tail. I do like DL, and their colors do look different on the A330, and now they look better to me. On a more off to the side question, why doesn't US Airways send any widebodys to/from PHX, last I checked, it is where their main offices are, and their main hub is. It is a little boring with a thousand 737s, a thousand A320 series planes, and a few 757s.

The only reason PHX is a hub for US Airways is because it was America West's hub before it merged with US Airways and US keep the same types of plane (the ones you mentioned) on the routes operated out of PHX and the hub.

Its was most likely part of the merger the same with the "cactus" (America West's callisign) being used instead of the original Us Airways callisign.

I still photograph both though now I am trying to expand out with different angles and lighting. I am glad I photographed as many NWA planes over the last ten years as I have. Several Mesaba planes are getting the Delta livery leaving only N407XJ in the NWA scheme.

CalebWilliams sorry I didn't see your post until after I got back. I spent most of my time at the Lindbergh Garage. I plan on going up there again later this month or next. Do you live in Minneapolis?
