Thread Title Consistency - Notice

Mon Sep 07, 2009 9:29 pm

Dear photographers.

when posting a thread in this forum regarding pre-/post-acceptance screening, please pay special attention to the thread title for consistency reasons:

Screening postings without exception should be like:

Photo Acceptance - Pre Screening (YOUR USERNAME)
or
Photo Acceptance - Post Screening (YOUR USERNAME)

Quite often we see threads titled like:

            Photoacceptance - Prescreening YohnD
            Photo Acceptance Prescreening Yohn Doe
            Photo Acceptance-Pres-creening (YohnD)

While these deviations from the standard might appear insignificant to some, the differences are noticeable especially when we have many similar threads in a row.

We highly appreciate your input and pre screenings are of excellent help for our photo screeners, however please obey these small request from the Airliners.net Moderating Crew.

Thanks lot!

I might have mentioned this before and in any case my comments are likely to amount to nothing due to the crew reaffirming the format of thread titles.

Why does the title need to waste space with redundant information?

Why does it need "Photo Acceptance"?
Is Pre or Post screening not enough to high light the poster's issue?

Why is the posters username required?
It is clearly visible in the Thread starter column

My concept would be to use the additional thread title info for details that might attract comment from those with particular expertise eg--

Pre Acceptance- Cockpit view or Post Acceptance- Airport Overview

Just a coupla cents worth

Cheers

Chris

Welcome to the wonderful of standardization....

Look at it this way, if you are producing good enough images that will pass the first time, you are not in the need of..........

As for me, they either make it the first time (rarely I use a second try) if not, I'll post it /sell it somewhere else.

Personally, I use pre/post screening threads when I have a specific question about a photo. For that reason, I would prefer to include a small description of the topic my question is related to in the title of my thread. I feel many contributors are deterred when they see the pre screen threads, but might be interested in responding if they see my question is specific to something they might be able to help with.

Oh good grief..... IMHO getting standardized to the point of being anal.

Why not have a complete FORUM just for pre and post screening.

I come on here to read about photo issues. New cameras, lenses, techniques and have to search through a whole page of screening threads to find the informative threads.

Let's get back to having a PHOTOGRAPHY FORUM and if they want SCREENING forums, put them in their own place.

Good point, I have also thought about what I could do to specify the type of my own pre/post screening threads, like putting it that way: Pre Screening - Motive question. In order to keep some kind of unity, there could be prefix in the thread titel, say [PRE/POST SCREENING], with the individual information right behind.

edit: added some information

I can see the reasoning behind this - but, I think it is getting a bit too anal. I don't see a problem as long as the words "Pre-Screening/Post Screening" are in the thread title - no matter what order of the info.

As long as we don't get:

"PRE SCREEN PLSS!!111!!11!!! SCREENERS KEEP REJECTNG MY PIX"

"Pre-Screen"

"Help????"

etc.

If it is reasonable, descriptive, and not distracting - I don't see a problem with the old way.

The site has said a million times no sub forums. If they did we would have one or meets, screening and all sorts of crap. Just do what they say what the fudge does it matter? Are we that bored we have to start a revoulution on forums and thread titles?

Shouldn't this thread's title be:

Notice - Thread Title Consistency

I thought we already did this topic once?

A.net is a user based site. Photographers are the reason that we have such an amazing database of aircraft pictures and they should have a say. As they say....don't bite the hand that feeds you.

Remember there is no gun to your head forcing you to upload. It's a two way street. You left out how your photos are hosted for free and given the most exposure?

Yes they are. But A.net has gotten to this point by the contribution of the photographers as well. I agree with you that it is a two way street and in this case plenty of photographers have voiced their opinion as above, all I am saying is that it should be given a consideration.....not looking to start a flame war.

I don't recall that being said so definitively. Maybe they said 'not just now'.

My view would be that if enough of the photographer membership think that would be a good idea then surely a responsive site, focussed on meeting the needs and requirements of its membership, would listen seriously to such feedback and look into this.

The standardization of screening topics actually helps to let the other threads stand out more, it's the very last step that can be taken before creating a subforum just for that. Since I think subforums would be a bad idea I find this standardisation rather practical.

Nevertheless, I have to agree with StealthZ, the proposed format can be improved.

It has nothing to do with being bored .... it's more like that:

A relief from chaos ....

The current standardisation met most photographers approval after an interesting discussion: Pre & Post Screening Threads Your Input Required (by Moderators Feb 18 2009 in Aviation Photography)
.... and was anounced in this thread: Announcing Individual Screening Threads (by Moderators Feb 24 2009 in Aviation Photography)

However ... improvement is not a bad thing and some suggestions in this current thread are being discussed among Screeners and Mods and will be implemented should we find them suitable.

I am pretty sure it has but a simple decision has been made and they are not asking a lot. Just something to keep the forum looking neat. Heed it, we can argue so many other things that are more pressing.

Quoting Psych (Reply 16):

I've seen it beaten to death in site-related and I would wager we will not see any new forums.
