The One Picture You'd Like To Be Remembered For?

Sun Oct 04, 2009 12:40 pm

What is the one single image you hope to be remembered for? Give some motivation for your reply as well.
I'll probably have to go with this one:

You might want to share one that you can say you devised that particular style, or one that tells a story. Whatever.
I've gone for this one as I feel this kind of picture is, at present, my favourite type. I really enjoy the satisfaction a line up of heavies gives me when all the elements come together. And at my favourite airport too, it's a bonus.
Spence.

I am tempted to go for a photo of my 'Worm's eye view', not least because the area I used to frequent to get those shots is now rather difficult to get to with overgrown shrubbery. At least at the time I was associated with that kind of photo, and that was fine with me.

But I think I would have to go for this image:

Though far from my best quality, I don't think anyone else had done a photo like this at the time. I just liked the way it presented that particular aircraft in a rather 'novel' way.

Cheers.

I'm probably conceited enough to say I haven't taken it yet  Wink
But if we have to limit it to existing images ..(accepted on A.net as a secondary qualifier) then I would go with..

I had noticed the potential for this kind of image and had to make a few visits to get the elements to fall into place.

Great timing for this thread...

Not the first time I have plugged this photo (sorry  Smile ), but I would have to say this image hands down:

Today marks one year ago that the photo was taken. And as I spent the day yesterday at the same airshow, I heard a few comments from spectators recalling the surprise 747SP visit last year and what a smile it brought to my face when I overheard someone actually make reference to this photo.

A once in a lifetime moment with a classic and now very rare subject...I couldn't be happier to be a part of it.

That's my favourite so far. But there are others - when I get some time to edit them and try to upload them. That might be easier now that I'm out of action for a while due to illness.

If not those, then I'll use low shutter speeds on every photo whenever practical.

Well this one would have to be it for me. So much work went into the planning and manufacturing of the camera boom to attach to the wing, then actually putting the aircraft into the position I wanted before releasing the shutter. And of course, the awards this photo has won. Shot on Fuji RVP-50 in the good old days of film. Big grin

But it was a really awesome experience - the whole water cannon salute. I loved it and was fortunate enough to get this shot in. I still hate the A380 windows as it was cropped quite a bit to get rid of the last corner. Home airport, inaugural commercial A380 flight into New Zealand. It just made it so much more special being at my home airport. I nearly forgot that they'd have a salute until I saw the fire engine out the window spraying water in front of us! I nearly didn't upload it either but looked online to see that there weren't many photos in the db taken from inside the plane during a salute. But I must say experiencing it in real life is much more enjoyable than any still shot produced.. It also looks like the water's getting sucked into the engine.
It's all about the destination AND the journey.

Well I kinda have two...

I really like the photo of the Qantas A380, it only got accepted today. But as I am so passionate about Concorde and all things Concorde, I have to go with my picture of Alpha Charlie, MY Concorde at Manchester. I am pretty confident that I will take many better photos in the future, however at the moment I only have 5 photos in the database.

Only as I write this do I realize that it was nearly 10 years ago now that I first came across A.net. At the time I thought, "Hey, I've got aircraft pictures I could send to this site!." The one above was my first upload, and is from the first flight I took on an Mi-24.

All of yours are superb shots! Thank you for sharing.  Smile

Definitelly these 2 shots for me, not for the photos themselves, but because they remind me an extraordinary 2-weeks journey as a participant to the 25th rally "Toulouse - Saint-Louis du Sénégal" with a single engine A/C, flying the route that St-Exupéry, Mermoz and other pioneers in aviation were following in transporting mail to South America. A fantastic adventure with some sketches like bird strike on a wing while flying "not that high" over the beach, 2 litres of water in my fuel tank, coming out of a manually pumped 100LL from a barel, a RWY partially closed without NOTAM with the resulting mess when 25 aircrafts are closelly following, etc...  Cool

I'd first spotted this photo opportunity almost a decade earlier flying Ghana Airways DC-10 down to Accra from London, and had done the trip many times since, but either the weather was cloudy, or the flight delayed so that it was already dark by the time we reached the desert. This day, I had the right side of the aircraft, a clear day, sunset, and a good view!

I love old aeroplanes, it was a perfect flying afternoon and I was up with my old mate Laurie out of Bendigo, a town to which I have a strong attachment. I knew about the mirror, but it wasn't until we were up that I realised that a quite interesting shot could be taken using both it and the direct view of the world. It took quite a few attempts - virbration was a real problem - but this one paid off. I love it!

Maybe this is not my best shot, but I love it because it was taken in Ushuaia, the pilot of the aircraft was my girlfriend, and I've waited this moment for about one year...
All the mountains covered by snow, the sun position perfect and an Archer was available for that flight.

Hope you'll like it.

This guy is an inspiration, you have to see his performance to believe it. He's customized the controls on the plane himself, where he operates both the yoke and the rudder with his hands! I had never imagined that someone could fly with such a serious disability. Served as a reminder just how lucky we are to be healthy and have functionality of all our limbs.

The visitor comment pretty much summed up my motive behind taking this picture.

Mine is my KLM shot from SXM. Not technically perfect but tells one hell of a story. I was watching it approach the airport and we knew that it was already very low as it came in over Maho bay. Instinct was to just stand and watch but I knew i had to keep looking through the viewfinder and keep pressing the shutter button. The weather did us no favours at all that afternoon, but I got the shot.

Because it shows both supersonic passenger acft together and the Concorde hadn't got the stairs yet by the time which ruin the outside view now.

I agree. There are a bunch of photos I have withheld from ANet just because I am not quite ready to upload them. I will but I just have to be ready to do so. Until then, for photos that are mine and on this site, this is the shot I treasure the most.

It was a once in a lifetime chance and a dream come true for me to see the Space Shuttle. I am 30 yrs. old so I grew up with the Shuttle Program. I was in the classroom at school when they would stop everything just so we could watch a launch back in the 1980's. It made a huge impact on me as a child. The unfortunate thing was at the time, my family was not doing well financially so going to Florida was out of the question and I lived in Kentucky. It felt like being in a different country to me when I thought about the whole NASA complex in Florida.

When they had to land at Fort Campbell Army Airfield KHOP, I was just lucky and nothing else. I was lucky to be able to talk with the man who was escorting in the other media and he told me to meet him at the gate by the airfield and I could go in with him. I drove like mad and made it with time to spare. Like I said, when I saw the Shuttle and its 747 taxiing up toward us on the ramp, it was a dream come true for me. I had to wipe a tear away because this goes way back into the early years of my childhood. I still thank God everyday for having this chance.

Those (very few) of my pictures that collected most hits and ended up in many albums, I personally find to be nothing special.

My personal favorites scored fairly modestly in terms of popularity, but I like them most, and here they are:
