I agree. There are a bunch of photos I have withheld from ANet just because I am not quite ready to upload them. I will but I just have to be ready to do so. Until then, for photos that are mine and on this site, this is the shot I treasure the most.
It was a once in a lifetime chance and a dream come true for me to see the Space Shuttle. I am 30 yrs. old so I grew up with the Shuttle Program. I was in the classroom at school when they would stop everything just so we could watch a launch back in the 1980's. It made a huge impact on me as a child. The unfortunate thing was at the time, my family was not doing well financially so going to Florida was out of the question and I lived in Kentucky. It felt like being in a different country to me when I thought about the whole NASA complex in Florida.
When they had to land at Fort Campbell Army Airfield KHOP, I was just lucky and nothing else. I was lucky to be able to talk with the man who was escorting in the other media and he told me to meet him at the gate by the airfield and I could go in with him. I drove like mad and made it with time to spare. Like I said, when I saw the Shuttle and its 747 taxiing up toward us on the ramp, it was a dream come true for me. I had to wipe a tear away because this goes way back into the early years of my childhood. I still thank God everyday for having this chance.
