Mon Oct 12, 2009 10:30 am

Hi,

I'm over in Oklahoma in two weeks time, and planning on driving the few hundred miles down to Dallas, Which is the better for photography and at which locations.

Kind Regards

Both are real good if you have the time do both. The top of the parking garage at DAL is very good early morning and the new founders plaza at DFW is good as well.
Hey that guy with the private jet can bail us out! Why? HE CAN AFFORD IT!

True. The new Founders Plaza at DFW is great for late afternoon/evening shots, especially if runways 18L/R are in use for arrivals. 300mm or more focal length is good enough here.

If you're in the Dallas area on 24th-25th October, the annual Alliance Air Show is scheduled for those two days at Fort Worth Alliance airport.

Hope that helps.

200mm should still be ok, though you may have to crop out a lot of the background.

With your lens, Love Field will be a much better bet, Bachman Lake is right under the approach path for runways 13L/R, check out Google Earth.

Yep but also if you can shoot very early hit that parking garage. Go to the top and you have so many great options like rotations, taxi shot etc.

Forgot to mention Addison Airport (ADS) in Dallas. Its got a lot of GA traffic, including a fair share of private jets, in case you're into those kind of aircraft. Check out the shots from there in the db, you can get in touch with someone who's spotted there.

By the word early, how early do you mean? What sort of time is sunrise over there in Dallas this time of year?

Got to get there at sunrise. The light gets on top of you in a hurry and if you want good results you got to shoot early. You can get some great results. Check weather.com and they will have what time the sun comes up.
