Pre-Screening-General (Wes)

Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:10 am

I've been lurking around this website for a while and decided to go ahead and get a photographers account. Any suggestions on the following picture?

Did I embed the picture right?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, and welcome.

You did fine linking to the photo.

I assume you're looking for advice to get your photo accepted here? If yes, there are a couple of things:

1. It's backlit, meaning the sun is one the wrong side. You've shot the dark side of the plane, which while not a killer in and of itself, is a lot less desirable than the other way.
2. There's a slight color cast (cyan/blue)
3. The biggest problem is that it's a blurry, which is often a problem when tracking a moving object. Your shutter speed was reasonably high, but you might want to try getting it higher next time. The general rule is the longer the focal length being used, the higher the shutter speed you should be using.

All in all, you've not done too badly for your first effort, but (this edit at least) is not quite up to standards here. Good luck with the next one!

Thanks for the advice Dana. I'll work on those things for the next upload I attempt.
