MilitaryAircraft.Net?

Thu Oct 22, 2009 3:29 pm

Going along the lines of what Karl said about cabin shots, what about a seperate site for all the mil stuff? This is supposed to be Airliners.Net after all.

No, let's keep military aircraft here.

They are, in general, more interesting than airliners.

I actually don't mind shots of converted civil types like L1011's and VC-10's, just not keen on seeing fighters, bombers and the like.

What Tim said. There are some stunning military shots in the DB.

From our support templates:

"The site was started in the late 90s with photos of airliners. As time has progressed, we have expanded to cover any aspect of aviation.
People have different interests and we wish to serve everybody equally.

If you look at the top photos and photographers' choice, you'll see that many of the most popular photos are in fact not of airliners, but rather military planes. This shows that having these aircraft types in our database is much welcomed among our users.

You can always choose to see only civil aircraft when searching for photos, by choosing "Civil Only" in the Photo Search Engine here:

http://www.airliners.net/search/index.main"

Cheers,

Thierry

In our case, name recognition and brand equity are a lot more powerful and valuable than a technically accurate description of content.

I concur with John. It really doesn't matter to me as long as they are good, unique, whatever. Some military shots on here are honestly some of the best I have ever seen.

Military aircraft is what I view the most. I would say 90% and the other 10% is all the civil and space stuff.

Originally there was a plan for a sister site dedicated to military a/c. The name was going to be Airfighters.net (www.airfighters.net), but for some reason or another Johan never really put those plans into action.

No name change is needed, as while the site originally focused on civil airliners, over the years, the scope of the website changed.

I think there's a place for cabins, general aviation, military... it all flies! Heck, I think even that flying car I saw on the news a while back should be allowed, considering that it is registered as an aircraft by the FAA...  Smile In fact, it's already on here, with Massachusetts plates.

There is a site called Airfighters.com that's been around for a couple of years: http://www.airfighters.com

That site is not associated with this site at all. The Airfighters.net site was proposed earlier this decade, and for a time was mentioned on this site (On the home page IIRC).

I enjoy looking at photos of those Russian military planes, if they were hosted elsewhere, I wouldn't bother looking there anyway.

If I had to upload military plane photos on another site, I wouldn't bother.

It was mentioned some time ago that the site was only intended for airliners, but the popularity that came from the day that military stuff started to be accepted, made the site change slightly. If its to do with aircraft and flying, then why not? I really don't enjoy seeing aircraft cabins or aircraft toilets, even balloons, but I admit there are some cracker shots on here for all these things. It makes the site a better place and covers all aspects of aviation. Everyone is happy that way.
