My new-ish Canon 40D is my primary "hobby" camera, but my wife and I also like to keep a slim point-and-shoot that can fit into a pocket for kid pix, vacation shots, etc. Our old Canon S410 just died and I'm in the market for a new small camera. Since we're planning this new camera, it would be nice to find one that is capable of producing Airliners.net-quality images. I don't need lots of zoom, just something that would be capable of getting crisp, low-grain images of static aircraft, museum displays, etc.
Any thoughts? Since I recently bought the 40D I don't want to spend a lot of money; $300 is probably the absolute top limit. Since I already have Canon going that direction would be a plus, but not mandatory.
