LAX Spotting

Sat Jan 09, 2010 10:53 am

Hello,

I am going to actually visit Los Angeles, rather than just connect through LAX in a few weeks, and would obviously love to spend sometime spotting around LAX.

With a quick serch of the forums here the IN-N-OUT burger appears to be the favorite. Any tips/suggestions for getting there as I do not have plans for a rental car? It this spotter/photographer friendly? I searched the photos from here and found a picture and noticed a parking deck right behind the IN-N-OUT, do they allow you in the parking deck for spotting?

I also see the encounters resturant is mentioned as well including that it was rather expensive. I used google and found their website and menu but no prices, just how expersive is it for a burger during lunch?

Where is about imperial hill and how do I get there?

Inn-N-Out is not the best place at this time of the year. I would prefer the Imperial Hill spot since its much better with the sun behind you all day long in winter. A taxi from the airport to Imperial Hill is 17,50 USD (distance is quite short but there is a minimum rate of 17,50 for all taxis leaving from LAX). Alternatively there is a free shuttle bus for hotel guests of Embassy Suites south...

If I could pick one place it would be Imperial Hill, hands-down. I was rather disappointed by In-N-Out (good food, though!).

You must have been there when the light is not good. How can you not like that spot in summer!
Hey that guy with the private jet can bail us out! Why? HE CAN AFFORD IT!

Or alternatively alternatively, there is public transit from the LAX bus station. Beach Buses service 109; ask for the Sheldon St. stop although it will blindingly obvious when you get there.

You can walk to the In-n-Out from LAX (15-20 minutes).

Take the free Parking lot C bus to lot C, from there, it's a short 5 min walk to In n Out. Lot C itself is a good spotting place, just stay on the port side of the aircraft to get good lighting.

Go to the Flight Path museum as well at LAX, close to Imperial Hill, great tarmac and runway views... www.flightpath.us

Photography is not permitted on the parking garage (it's called The Parking Spot, I think). There are signs to that effect up on top there. I don't know how intent they are on keeping you off, though.

The park just south of the In'n'Out is very spotter friendly, in my experience. There are almost always people there, at least watching the airplanes, if not taking photos.

I think you can just walk to the In'n'Out from the airport....though I'm not sure about that.

Jesus, that's ridiculous! $17.50 for a 3-mile taxi ride....
I'm watching Jeopardy. The category is worst Madonna songs. "This one from 1987 is terrible".

VERY intent; would you like unknown individuals wandering around where you left your car for days/weeks ?

All started a few years back when the local photogs held a massed top-floor "party" at the garage. With the predictable result. Sigh.  banghead
