Aperture 3 Released

Sun Feb 14, 2010 2:21 am

Despite talk to the contrary suggesting that Aperture might disappear - the third version of it has been released:

Not sure if I'll upgrade. I only use Aperture for the photo-library functions and nothing else.

I've been using it for a while now and it's really a nice improvement, i especially like the skin brush to soften up portraits

Hey,

it does look much better than 2.0. On my macbook it is much faster, and overall impressions are positive. However, maybe stupid question, but is there any difference between full version, and up-grade? I do have v.2.0, and I am considering getting it.

Thanks for help!

Let's say I work for this specific company   there is no difference, the upgrade just checks to make sure you have a previous version and saves you $100

So can someone here please explain to me the difference between Aperture 3, and Lightroom 3, the beta version of which is available for download until release of the retail version in April this year?

I had Aperture 1 installed on my G5 when I first bought it (Aperture 1 cost £300, I see Aperture 3 is retailing at £169!   ) and to be honest, I found it to be pretty useless in terms of processing capabilities. OK, it was a reasonable tool for cataloguing shots but apart from that ....

However, I have recently downloaded the LR3 beta and it is something I'm definitely considering, hopefully along with PS CS5 when it comes, for my new iMac i7 about to be delivered.

Any assistance between the two would be greatly appreciated.

I could never find a way in Aperture 2 to process my images in a way that didn't make them look un-natural, or get the same results as I did in Photoshop CS3.

Now of course, I use CS4 Master Collection - so I'm a lot less likely to move back to Aperture. Aperture is however a lot better than Nikon Capture NX2. That Nikon software was the slowest I've ever used - I've not reinstalled it.

When CS5 Master Collection comes out, I'll get that.

Aperture 1 was really the first attempt, Aperture 2 was a huge improvement and Aperture 3 is an even larger iimprovement.

I've got the i7 and aperture 3 runs great on it. I've found aperture easier to use and organize than Light room, mostly because i was used to iphoto. I also like that aperture is able to integrate with all the other apple applications which i use heavily. Aperture makes it really easy to organize photos and i've found it very useful for fine tuning photos, easier than photoshop.
