Identify This Lens!

Wed Apr 21, 2010 3:44 am

Hi all,

I've recently been looking at the profile of a portrait photographer in town, and I saw in one of his videos his camera/lens combination. I've confirmed that it is indeed Nikon, and is also either a D2 or D3 body (I'd suspect D3).

I've included a screenshot of the lens in the video, and I was wondering if someone could identify the lens for me? I'd really appreciate it!

The screenshot:

Thanks a lot!

I just looked at NikonUSA's lens lineup - and I suspect it is the 80-200 f/2.8.

Can someone confirm?

I think it is the 180mm F/2.8 prime - an older model.

Well, actually, right vintage - but wrong lens - it is the 80-200mm F/2.8D ED.

Looks to me like an older 80-200 AF (not AF-D) f/2.8. Not many Nikon lenses have the focusing scale so far towards the front element.

can't be the 180 prime, it has the focusing scale well back on the lens barrel.

Yeah, just noticed that and did some more searching. I think I edited my message as you replied. I've put a photo up of what it actually is. It has to be the January 1997 and onwards 80-200mm, the earlier ones looked very different.

This list maybe of help? Just click on the focal length / aperture (blue lettering) to see a pic of the lens.
