Permit Or Volunteer Program For MIA Spotters

Fri Apr 30, 2010 2:52 am

Does anyone know if MIA or Miami Dade Police has any plans to create a program for spotters who would like to act as civil security around the airport while spotting?

Hi , Alex

As far as a program for us here at Miami, I do not think there is one. Maybe you can try the volunteers program there and might be able to go in with your camera.

Now....

There is the Miami Aviation Slide convention that happens at the start of the year, You can sign up, which includes a
Ramp tour. --- permitting everything works out.

BTW: NIce job on the MD-11, I remember , when I got mine.

OH thank you for the compliment. I love that plane ....one of my favorites. I will look into it. It would defenetily be awesome if we could help the MDPD and at the same time do our "thing" (photos).

Hey Flight, Do you know when will sign up begin.? Is there a webpage? I have googled it up and down and found all the previous conventions. It sounds great. I just recently started with this hobby and have always loved it...So will see how it goes. So far I have gotten some pretty good shots which I believe are to A.net standards. We will see

Why the need for such a thing at MIA ? The authorities know all about spotters, and the Eldorado and 'holes' locations never IME genereate any hassle.

Just wanting to feel important I guess.

Acutely I have gotten some unfriendly glances at the holes and eldorado-- Having a set of extra eyes in the airport, will not hurt...

They are all very friendly but there is always one or two that have to proof a point. I have had police stop and asked me what I am doing there. Mind you, I have a camera and a lens hanging from my neck. The airport escorts (one of them) asked me to step back from the railroad tracks at El Dorado. He said I was not allowed on the tracks. Some of them are just nice, others are just out for revenge. LOL. But joke aside, it would be so awesome to help. Nothing to do with feeling important. Look at what just happened NYC. Thanks to the public nothing horrible. So actually, in a way, it would make me feel important. Why not.

I believe the police and the escorts are there to do their job but like Flight said, more eyes would not hurt.
