Renaissance Heathrow

Fri Jun 04, 2010 11:44 pm

Hi all

I am traveling through Heathrow to Amsterdam and the connections I have found to AMS are a little less than 1:40, which I don't think is enough time given that I'd have to check in again (two different tickets from Airlines not in the same alliance) so I thought I'd better stay one night there and continue the next day to AMS.

I am thinking on staying a night in the Renaissance if I can work this out, I'd arrive in the early night and leave by noon the next day, my question is, can good pictures be taken from the room in the morning hours? I'd arrive more or less in a month (around July 6th) but the information I have found about the light conditions for the morning in the date I am arriving is conflictive, so I'd appreciate if someone could clarify this for me.

Also, my lens is a 70-300, is that good enough?

Thanks a lot!

Light that time of year should be reasonable, and the lens is just fine. The LHR runways are due east/west (90 degrees/270 degrees). For July 6, sunrise is at 4:52 a.m. at 52 degrees, and by 7 a.m. it will have swung around to about 75 degrees, still far enough north for OK if not great light. For the previous evening (July 5) sunset is at 9:20 p.m. at about 310 degrees; at 8 p.m. the sun will be at about 295 degrees, again fair lighting.

All in all, just about the best time of year for the LHR Renaissance. Just be aware that if the 9s are in use vs. the 27s, your view won't be nearly as nice.

Thanks a lot John!
I think I'll give it a try then if everything turns out as planned.
