Hotels For Spotting At Heathrow

Sun Jun 20, 2010 11:43 am

Hi everyboby,

Not sure it is the best section for this question, and sorry also if it has been posted previously !!!

Renaissance Hotel seems to be the best place for catching up birds at LHR; indeed most of the TRs related show stays in this place, is there any others recommandations with a great view too, for a combo "snap n stay"?

Thanks for help

There are other hotels with views (sort of) at LHR. None to beat the Renaissance though.

In most of these hotels there are only a very view rooms with a view - Holiday Inn (Ariel), Ibis etc., you can ask for one on the reservation but it's a toss-up whether you'll get it or not.

The Travel Inn (or whatever it's called now) is better, lots of rooms facing the approach and a large car park almost directly underneath 27R. The Drury Inn is between the runways which may increase your chance of (half) a view. And a few rooms in the outrageously-priced T4 Hilton. I haven't stayed at the T5 one, so can't comment but you'd need to be there on 09 days anyway.

Jury's Inn is a newish hotel that would (i gather) be great if there landing on 27L. Its next to Hatton Cross and just up the road from Myrtle Ave.

Yes they do, plus an airport view room is guaranteed. At all the others you're at the mercy of the check-in clerk.

And if the hotel food prices put you off, there's always the Mickey D across the road

Remember though that you can only take photo's from there if ..........

1) Its cloudy. So not shooting into the sun.
2) Its mid summer & sunny but after 18.00 hrs. The sun does not move round until after this time.

Great spot though.

Or before 9am. Which is a 'target-rich' time, except that some arrivals will use the other runway.

Useless.

You can see the runway from a few rooms, but it's an obstructed view across the road and between other buildings.

€5 for a beer as well  Wow!

Hi there,

I've just been to the renaissance hotel for spotting and it was fantastic. If you go to their site and look at 'special offers', you will find a Spotters Break Arrangement. It says you can only book it in the weekends, but if you call them they'll give you the arrangement also on weekdays. When you book that arrangement, you are guaranteed of a good view on the highest floor, and you also get free access to the club lounge, where the views are also amazing (check plane-mad.com) and free continental breakfast and snacks are served! You should check the wind direction before you go, because if the 09 runways are in use, the hotel will be allmost useless.

Hope this helps.
Cheers
