Intersky Thankful To Spotters!

Wed Jun 23, 2010 7:45 pm

A very unusual move by austrian regional airline Intersky.
I´ve never heard of any airline to thank spotters by painting it on one of their aircraft ...

That is one nice shot. It makes the plane look like a ball on one set of wheels.

THEY dont, the Airport Security does (unfortunately) !

Great Stuff that, you guys should reciprocate by dropping-in a large print or two at their office everytime you get a great shot of their plane.

Photos look far better in print than on the screen besides, its a nice PR building exercise

Well, security sometimes responds to complaints from nervous, usually American, fliers. One of the spots in AMS was apprently closed for this reason, and I was even told not to photograph from the bloody visitor terrace on one occasion.

It's PR, but still a nice move by this airline. 'It's you who give aviation a face'. Theres some truth in that.

Yes. They told me some crew member had been complaining, and that I therefore could not photograph American planes with a big camera. I should have objected, but I was about to leave anyway, and it obviously isn't official policy. It shows the authorities are sensitive to complaints from aircrew, though, even silly ones.

If the Americans don't like European freedoms, they can always stay away.

Agree 100%. We should not stop what we do just for the Americans. As Saintex said, if they don't like it in europe or where I live, Australia. The Americans are more than welcome to stay home.

I know this is dragging the thread off topic, but these sort of stories p-ss me off big time.

One uncorroborated comment form someone said to someone who said to someone... and this turns into an American-bashing fiesta? What the hey?

You think it completely outside the realm of possibility that a US crew member saw a telephoto lens pointed at them and wet their pants ?

Seems entirely possible and sadly, typical to me.

The authorities at AMS are quite comfortable with photographers on the observation deck. To react as alleged somebody must have had a real attack of paranoia. Who is the most likely candidate ?

YES!!!!!!!! I am frequently aiming telephoto lenses on the approach end of KTUS, and can see pilots very clearly, and never, ever ever had an issue there. Security and police pass me like I don't even exist.

Furthermore, since when do authorities at any major airport, especially outside the US, take orders from some american pilot? Who's in charge? This doesn't pass the smell test. Neither does telling someone they can't take photos of US planes, others are OK. Really? How does anyone know where a telephoto lens is aiming at?

Let's calm down a little here folks. Is the US performance in the World Cup getting your panties in a bunch?

I'm inclined to believe someone with thousands of photos in the database and a high respect rating.
