Looking For A New Dslr

Wed Jul 07, 2010 6:46 am

Hi, I'm looking for a DSLR mostly for plane spotting at the local airport, preferably in the $400 range not including a lens, this would be the first DSLR that I've owned but I have plenty of knowledge on photography and have used plenty of DSLR's before. Also If the camera doesn't come with a good lens (at least up to 300mm) than there has to be some good zoom lenses that I can buy separately for the camera. Also, if you have any pictures to show image quality of the camera than it would be appreciated if you would include a link to them.

Thanks!

Any entry-level Nikon or Canon DSLR body will adequately meet your needs.
Nikon D700, Nikkor 80-400, Fuji X Pro 1, Fujinon 35 f/1.4, Fujinon 18 f/2

What do you think of the Nikon D3000?

Not sure about the D3000, I'm sure you can look online in the photograpy websites for reviews, but for my entry level Nikon DSLR, the D-90 has been amazing. Took a little getting used to (as all will do) but totally worth it in the end. It definitely a great beginners option, which I still use all the time.

I have one, it's a good camera for beginners, but once you get better, it starts to be underwhelming. (that's understandable, since it is a camera for DSLR beginners) But overall, it is a good camera if you are new to DSLRs.

One more piece of advice, if you want to buy a new lens for it, get an AF-S lens. If you buy an AF lens or lower, the Autofocus won't work.
