Indeed he has. He told me he was just finishing off the editing of the very first aviation shot he ever took. It was the Wright brothers' maiden flight!

It's a pity we only accept photos as I believe he was there when the Montgolfier brothers made the first balloon flight and made a pencil sketch.

Shall I delete my photos from the queue now before he rejects them in retaliation for that comment?

Seriously though, congratulations in advance on such a phenomenal achievement Mick. Very much looking forward to what you come up with for number 10,000! You've covered many types and genres of aircraft over many years - long may it continue!

Best regards,

Jim

Absolutely sure that Mick has something on his harddrive or in his slide collection for that occasion.

Congratulations to Mick and all the best for the future.

And all that in only a bit more than 5 years; that's 2000 photos accepted per year! That in itself is an awesome accomplishment!

Very well done, Mick and just like the other guys, I can't wait seeing your Nr 10000.

Clearly he needs to get a life   .

Nobody can doubt the significant contribution that Mick has made to the site in terms of his photo collection and time. But as a man who no doubt cares little for all this statistical nonsense, he probably hasn't even noticed that he is one short of such a major milestone   .

Cheers.

And what is more, you have helped me (and plenty other photographers) a lot with editing, certainly with the old slides!!
I am still waiting for the moment that we can meet up in person, and when I can say a big "thank you" to you in person!!

Number 10000 has just popped up:

I haven't met you in person yet Mick but have had the good fortune to chat with you per email. So it pleases me to say well done mate on so many photographs here! You are certainly the one I think of regarding someone who really uploads exactly what he wants for no other reason than you like the diversity and challenge of every picture! Nice one Mick!

An amazing achievement indeed.

Even just having a brief look at at all of Mick's photos would be quite an undertaking and would take quite some time.

Congratulations, Mick! We'll be looking forward to your 20,000th some day

But still a great shot, I only have 9918 to go!

Congrats to you, Mick, for this incredible record and milestone for the next 10,000 pics - a pleasant mixture of old and new ones, past and present, always nice to look at! And all the best for your new challenges as head screener, that position will surely benefit from your long experience. Thank you very much for your always kind help! Stay as you are, and keep on the good work!

Cheers,
Wolfgang

Thanks for all the kind comments and e-mails I have received.
As Damien intimated above, I had planned to take something especially for my 10,000th but the weather, amongst other things, has repeatedly frustrated things and perhaps an oldie was more apt anyway. The oldies are however more or less finished now.
I am thrilled to have made it to 10k and am proud to be a part of the team here too and I have made a lot of friends along the way. If I start naming people, at my age I will undoutedly forget someone, so the easiest thing is to thank all my friends.
With my new role I will undoubtedly be slowing down my uploading, though I still have plenty of stuff that is new to the database and whilst most of it is not popular, that remains the most important thing to me, the database.

Congratulations, Mick.

Somehow I like to browse around general aviation airfields lately, and when I come home and look for the locations and aircraft I photographed in the database, I often find that the only existing pictures were shot by you, either recently or 25 or more years ago.

I haven't met you in person, but we've mailed a bit and from your forum posts, too, I am positive that you are the most significant contributor to this website, not just because of your knowledge, experience and now this record number of uploads, but also as a wise man of great morality (I hope that sounds positive enough in English).

Cheers

Mick,

This really is a great accomplishment, but I wonder how much greater it would seem if we had a tally of all the other photographers that you've helped over the years. I certainly owe you thanks for the editing help you provided on my popular shot.

You are most deserving of the Head Screener title. I look forward to working with you more in the future.

Congrats,

Edward

Hi Mick,

I’ve come to the party a bit late, but congratulations on your reaching the incredible number of 10,000 images on Airliners – a magnificent achievement!.
But for me, it isn’t just about quantity; the consistent quality, breadth of subject, the locations and of course, the period over which the photos were taken are significant factors in making your aviation collection of such interest and inspiration to so many fellow photographers.
You fairly rapidly left me behind from when we both signed up back in 2004, but I have very much appreciated your tireless assistance which did much to help an old snapper through what was then a scanning and post processing minefield.
Many thanks and many more images,

Malcolm.
My interest lies in the future as I am going to spend the rest of my life there!
